Your missions

Senior Construction Risk Consultant – Salary is Competitive

If you are someone looking to specialise in, or who already works in Risk Engineering in Construction, then Aviva have an opportunity for you. We are looking for a Senior Construction Risk Consultant to join Aviva Risk Management Solutions (ARMS), providing market leading risk management services to Aviva and all our customers. A key focus for Aviva is to support the construction market in delivering environmentally sustainable solutions including the use of Mass Timber and low carbon concrete.

This role is home-based, but mainly supports the London Market Construction Underwriters. As such, you will be required to travel into the London office occasionally, and to survey construction sites in the UK, with some international travel possible.

A bit about the job:

This role provides technical support and risk-based solutions to our underwriters, developers, and contractors in managing construction-related hazards for Aviva customers. Predominantly, this role will focus on supporting our larger customers by engaging with site project teams at various phases of construction projects, helping to identify and manage risks that could lead to insurable losses.

Engagement with our underwriting team is also expected to support the targeting of profitable business, through desk-based document reviews for new business opportunities, depending on your experience.

Site surveys will include both shell and core and fit-out works, relating to mid and high-rise residential and commercial office space, warehouses, and data centres. There is also the opportunity to progress into the more complex risks that we insure, including hospitals, road, rail and bridge infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrial risks (EAR) in the UK and overseas. This is dependent on your own experience and interests.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Ideally an experienced Construction Engineer, either working in the insurance market or on construction sites, with a sound knowledge of construction methods and associated risks for buildings under construction

  • Ability to analyse, collate and interpret construction project related information to ensure pro-active risk management decisions are made to effectively improve risk quality

  • The confidence to identify issues and propose risk improvement measures to internal and external stakeholders

  • The ability to engage as part of a team, work autonomously and deliver in a timely manner.

  • Highly developed presentation and customer engagement skills, with experience at influencing and negotiating.

What you’ll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too.  And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you.  We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

  • Competitive starting salary (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)

  • Bonus opportunity – 10% of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.

  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.

  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days

  • Make your money go further - Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts

  • Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme

  • Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave

  • Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work

  • Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others

  • We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools
