About The Role

This is a leadership role as a senior member of the Actuarial Enterprise Modeling Team in Finance Actuarial. The role includes a broad scope of responsibilities related to enterprise modeling and governance in the company’s actuarial models. Distinguished from the Actuary II position via demonstrated highest-level technical abilities that is a limited skillset at the company and/or additional leadership & management responsibilities. This role will supervise one or more junior actuarial staff. This role can be market-driven depending on the company and business needs. Seen as an apprentice to the aligned AVP or VP or represents a niche skillset. Supervises or guides work of more junior actuarial staff.

What You Will Do

  • This Actuary III will be a subject matter expert on the company’s actuarial enterprise annuity models. The role supports enterprise modeling efforts over multiple modeling applications, including but not limited to: Cash Flow Testing, Embedded Value, Principles Based Reserving, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Enterprise Risk Management models. The Actuary III will oversee execution of periodic annuity enterprise modeling processes, reviewing the work of staff and ensuring accuracy, completeness, timeliness of the area’s final work product, and supporting our model governance strategy.
  • This role will improve the efficiency and sophistication of the company’s enterprise models, while building on the effort to improve governance standards of the enterprise modeling infrastructure. Examples of project-related responsibilities include:
  • Proposing and implementing modeling solutions for reinsurance deals and new product features
  • Overseeing automation of processes, and the build-out of controls and model validation tools
  • Supporting the initiatives to break down modeling silos and improve our enterprise modeling at the company
  • As a subject matter expert, the Actuary III will serve as a point of contact for stakeholders of the enterprise annuity models, providing insights and education on how products are treated in the actuarial models.
  • Supervises or guides work of more junior actuarial staff.
  • Highly knowledgeable of the division and actuarial team strategy and contributes to the execution of the strategy.
  • May assist with division and actuarial team strategy.
  • Understands financial impacts on enterprise of division strategies. Approximately 80% of time spent on project and management work, including reviewing work & developing employees, and up to 20% on recurring work.

Compensation

Salary Range: $133,500 – $222,400 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent with strong quantitative background including college level mathematics.
  • 6+ years of insurance related actuarial experience. Typically 8+ years of experience.
  • Finished with actuarial exams (FSA), or career or ASAs with 15+ yrs exp and strong performance.
  • Has an understanding of the universe of annuities products we sell; understands their characteristics, major drivers of risk, and way to model them.
  • Proven ability to detail review, document, and implement modeling updates.
  • Demonstrated, highly effective communication skills.
  • Proactively communicates without prompting and independently drives action to address work needs.
  • Communicates with senior leadership and executive management.
  • Extensive experience with actuarial modeling software, with emphasis on MG-ALFA modeling.
  • Advanced knowledge of actuarial concepts and assumptions used for modeling, pricing, and financial reporting.
  • Supports innovative actuarial concepts independently.
  • Is capable of driving changes in actuarial or business practices towards future best practices.
  • Is able to lead changes in actuarial process workflows toward modernized approaches.
  • Demonstrates this depth with quality advice and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage and mentor junior actuaries.
  • Able to independently identify business problems and consistently demonstrate self-directed problem solving.
  • Significant knowledge of insurance/products and the industry, with emphasis on annuities.
  • Experienced in a variety of company, industry, and regulatory actuarial issues.
  • High school diploma required
