Your Impact:
Wind Turbine Traveling Technicians (Composite Repair) specialize in conducting inspection and corrective repair of composite Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) components, utilizing established procedures, with the highest regard for health, safety, and environmental compliance. Wind Turbine Traveling Composite Technician will be responsible for internal and external inspection and repair of blades, nacelles, and other composite components, and will carry out tasks such as sanding, cleaning, cutting and lay-up of fiberglass, carbon fiber and resin materials. As required, they may also assist in service and repair work on other wind turbine generator components, as well as related equipment and balance-of-plant. This position is 100% travel.
Core Responsibilities:
Employees in the Wind Turbine Composite Technician position should expect to:
- Evaluate, inspect, diagnose and document internal and external composite damage, then photograph and assemble documentation as required.
- Perform coating and structural repairs of internal and external composite structures, such as wind turbine blades and nacelles.
- Modify and repair fiberglass, carbon fiber, resin and other composite materials as needed.
- Work with site leadership to execute all contractual obligations and activities set forth with the customers daily, which can include composite repairs with respect to wind turbines.
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) as required to maintain safe working environment.
- Interpret engineering drawings and lamination schedules.
- Identify and suggest process improvements, including reduction of non-value-added operations, increased productivity opportunities, increased safety opportunities, etc.
- Coordinate with engineering support team when needed for non-standard repairs.
- Complete and maintain required company and client documentation and records, using computer-based service reporting tools and procedures.
Specific duties may vary or evolve over time based on business and client needs.
Core Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with composite materials in any industry.
- Proven technical and team leadership skills.
- Supervised composite blade damage assessment.
- Lightening damage tip, carbon blade tip and multi-shell tip replacement.
- Experienced with internal and external adhesive bonding.
- Competent in repairing leading edge (LE) and trailing edge (TE) cracks.
- Work within confined space areas, such as inside a wind turbine blade.
- Work an alternate schedule with overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Follow specific verbal and written instructions to perform wind turbine generator (WTG) and associated equipment assembly, repair, and maintenance.
- Understanding of mix ratios for all composite repair chemicals.
- Read and understand electrical schematic drawings.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
- Write reports, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
- Maintain required training certifications for position held. These include at a minimum: OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, CPR/AED - First Aid.
- Technical Certification in composite repair.
Physical/Work Environment
At Pearce Renewables safety is our number one concern. Candidates must be able to comply with the following OSHA Standards.
- Ability and willingness to climb a wind turbine vertically at least 300 feet.
- Maintain a weight between 120 and 280 pounds, including clothing and boots, for OSHA safety compliance.
- Lift and move equipment as needed (more than 50 pounds).
- Work in an indoor or outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions with blowing pollen, dust, and grasses.
- Ability to walk up to 3 miles per day on terrain such as gravel, pavement, grass, etc.
