We are looking for a passionate and experienced leader to join the Toast R&D team. In this role, you will lead a team within Team Line of Business, creating a technical plan, hiring and developing team members, and incrementally delivering value to our restaurant customers and their employees. 

As a Engineering Manager on our team, you will:

  • Bring your domain and general experience to architect complex systems at scale and possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability and engineering best practices.
  • Drive overall technical architecture, design, build and launch features/improvements on our platform. 
  • Be involved in complex, high-impact projects that may span multiple teams and amplify their impact by aligning organizations toward coherent architectural strategies.
  • Drive delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams, including planning and execution 
  • Collaborate closely with Product Manager and UX to get actionable, valuable work defined for the team
  • Keep product quality high by ensuring healthy QA practices are followed 
  • Ensure end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation
  • Coach individuals in professional and technical development to set up for their success
  • Hire and mentor Team Leads and Senior Technical Staff members to ensure their success at Toast
  • Encourage all parties and the community on advanced technical issues and help managers guide the career growth of their team members.

Do you have the right ingredients*

  • You have experience building SaaS products on the platform/infrastructure used to deliver them 
  • You have experience and expertise in breaking down monoliths into micro services and can solve for scalability 
  • You have knowledge of and experience in building backend services/APIs
  • Your teams are operating in effective software development environments including agile, continuous improvement and continuous delivery. 
  • You have a strong technical background with a personal preference for remaining technical.
  • You have a proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization.
  • You have a servant leadership mindset and you subscribe to the Toast values.

  • Extensive AWS footprint: S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda etc
  • A core of Kotlin/Java based backend services.
  • PostgresQL/MySQL and Dynamodb as core persistence
  • Pulsar, Camel for message-based integrations.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
Pay Range
$131,000$210,000 CAD
