Summary of Job Duties:
The School Readiness/Wellness Manager for UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start program serves as a member of our leadership team and is primarily responsible for achieving key outcomes related to the mental health and well-being of children, families, and staff.

The School Readiness/Wellness Manager ensures that the UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start program effectively supports the mental health and well-being of children, families, and staff, contributing to school readiness and long-term success.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or related field PLUS four (4) years of early childhood and mental health experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle with liability insurance, and be willing to use vehicle for agency related travel. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be computer literate
  • Able to handle stress, tension, and exasperation that contact with many children and adults may bring every day.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Three (3) years’ experience working in an early childhood program PLUS (3-5) three to five year’s managerial experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the implementation and integration of mental health and wellness initiatives within the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote the social and emotional well-being of children, families, and staff.
  • Ensures that mental health and wellness are incorporated into the curriculum and daily activities, supporting school readiness and holistic development.
  • Supports children and staff in developing the capacity to express and regulate emotions, fostering a positive emotional environment.
  • Provides training and support to staff on topics related to early childhood mental health, social-emotional learning, and wellness practices.
  • Implement programs and strategies to support the mental health and well-being of staff, recognizing their role in fostering a positive environment for children
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of mental health and wellness programs, making data-driven decisions to enhance program outcomes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the overall mission and goals of the Head Start/Early Head Start program .
