Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Commissioning Specialist is responsible for performing the tests under GE GSI scope of work determined by the Commissioning Manager / Coordinator for the specific project according with safety, quality, and technical requirements. Working with the Commissioning Lead and Commissioning Coordinator, the Commissioning Specialist will be executing the commissioning plan with the on-site supervision of the Commissioning Lead or equivalent, performing the tests, ensuring the products and equipment reach an acceptable result as per the documentation, troubleshooting when necessary, and submitting the test reports as soon as they are finished to the team for review. It’s also a responsibility of the Commissioning Specialist to provide feedback about the tests and processes to improve them and/or to correct potential gaps.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
Preparation and planning phase:
Support the project execution team on commissioning matters.
Technical governance and customer relations on commissioning matters.
Plan and support pre-commissioning effort (instrumentation, documentation, etc.).
Execution phase:
Ensure work is performed safely according with GE standards and local requirements.
Contribute to overall quality and excellence in execution of commissioning.
Perform instrument functionality verification at site.
Responsible for the start-up of the various auxiliaries’ system.
Conduct electrical commissioning tests on instrumentation.
Conduct commissioning tests (electrical and mechanical) of auxiliaries’ systems of Substation plants and synchronous condenser facilities.
Perform the electrical test support for the start-up of Substation plants and synchronous condenser facilities.
Perform LOTO and safety preparations as required for the commissioning tests.
Provide support to the site teams regarding the technical issues or challenges.
Keep good records about site activities, work performed, issues faced and how they were dealt with (non-conformity) to provide feedback to business and support it with information in case of claims.
Collaborate in resolving complex problems.
Mandatory and Desired Qualifications / Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Background / behavior:
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 5 years’ experience (OR) a High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of field experience
oStrong EHS culture.
oBe available for work on project sites in Canada and US.
oGood understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
oAbility to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines.
oExcellent interpersonal skills, teamwork skills and autonomy.
oAbility to build strong customer relationships.
oDemonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
oStrong customer service orientation.
oAbility to navigate cross-functions and create a good rapport with other teams (Project Management, Engineering, Finance, Fleet Support, EHS, HR, etc.).
oAbility to comply with mandatory requests on time, such as: trainings, timesheets, expense reports, daily reports, etc.
oUnderstand and implement, when required, cost and schedule control for commissioning scope.
oMust be proficient in French and English.
oValid driver’s license.

Technical:
oTechnical skills in programming and testing of PLC’s and Controls
oTesting of power distribution and delivery equipment of Low/medium Voltage Switchgear, disconnect switch, circuit breaker, capacitor bank, reactor, and Transformers.
oTesting of power distribution and delivery equipment of High Voltage Switchgear, Switchgear, disconnect switch, circuit breaker, capacitor bank, reactor, and Transformers.
oProficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and have good computer skills.
Desired Characteristics:
Proficiency in any data acquisition software considered an asset.
Electrical or mechanical installation experience considered an asset.

The salary range for this position is 100,100.00 - 133,400.00 - 166,800.00 USD Annual . The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
