Your Purpose 

As a Financial Risk Manager at Bitso, your primary mission in the first three months will be to generate and maintain key financial risk indicators, enabling you to routinely monitor and anticipate financial risks. You will be responsible for elaborating risk assessments and reporting on significant financial risks, such as credit risk assessments, investment portfolio evaluations, and risks associated with Bitso’s products. Additionally, you will develop a proposal for a financial risk appetite statement and actively monitor exposure to financial risks, ensuring compliance with defined limits and identifying potential unmonitored events.

  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the capacity to quickly grasp new and complex concepts.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing new policies, processes, and procedures from the ground up.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial products and services, with experience in payment institutions, fintechs, direct credit companies, and/or banks.
  • Extensive understanding of financial risks and their regulatory landscape.
  • Deep knowledge of the Basel Accords and best practices in financial risk management.
  • Mastery of financial mathematics and statistics, including creating Financial Risk Indicators (VaR, Stress Tests, Duration, Convexity, LGD, EAD, Liquidity ratios).
  • Fluency in English is required.

Desired Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Master’s Degree or higher is highly desired.
  • CFA and Risk Management certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with one Risk Management Framework (ISO 31000, COSO, Basel Framework).
  • 5-8 years of experience in Financial Risk Management.
  • Experience in programming for statistical analysis purposes.
  • Familiarity with statistical software, trading platforms, and market intelligence tools is preferred but not required.

What You Will Do 

  • Generate and maintain financial risk indicators to monitor financial risks and anticipate necessary actions, adjustments, and improvements.
  • Conduct assessments and report on significant financial risks, including the review of financial statements, credit risk assessments, and evaluations of Bitso’s product-related financial risks.
  • Develop a financial risk appetite statement proposal, monitor and control financial risk exposures, and report non-compliance or atypical events.
  • Participate in risk committees and the Asset Management Committee (AMC).
  • Establish methodologies, procedures, policies, and strategies for effective financial risk management, including credit, market, and liquidity risks, considering both conglomerate and individual institutional risks.
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements are met in alignment with best practices.
  • Evaluate and promote the capture and treatment of financial risks in the development of new products and services.
  • Propose and implement policies, performance, and profitability evaluation models, incorporating loss prevention measures and risk mitigation strategies aligned with established limits and incentives.
  • Familiarize yourself with the crypto environment, analyze company processes and products to identify risks.
  • Perform periodic stress tests on policies, processes, systems, and models to identify uncaptured exposures and prevent the exploitation of established limits and incentives.
