Liquibase is hiring a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead a team of passionate and skilled engineers as they develop our next generation SaaS application. You will report to the VP of Engineering and your leadership will be crucial in shaping both the product and the team, ensuring we meet our ambitious engineering goals. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on a high-value, innovative product line.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to be successful. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Project Management: Oversee the development lifecycle of the new SaaS web application, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality standards. Collaborate with product management and other stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Technical Strategy: Develop and execute the technical vision and strategy for the SaaS web application. Ensure alignment with overall company goals and objectives.
  • System Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of the SaaS web application, ensuring it is scalable, secure, performant and maintainable. Make key technical decisions and guide the team through complex technical challenges.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment. Ensure the team follows rigorous processes to maintain high standards of software quality.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, QA, DevOps, and customer support, to ensure successful product development and release.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, tool enhancements, and team development. Drive initiatives that improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Innovation and Problem Solving: Encourage a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Tackle complex technical challenges and develop creative solutions.

Must Haves:

  • Experience: 
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in an engineering director role. Proven track record of successfully launching SaaS products.
  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Technical Skills: 
    • Strong background in web application development and SaaS architecture, specifically in building and launching SaaS applications.
    • Strong expertise in system design and architecture, with a proven ability to create scalable, reliable, and secure solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
    • Proficiency in our tech stack (TypeScript/React/NodeJS/Express/Java) 
    • Experience with AWS cloud services and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Knowledge of database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL) and database change management.
    • Expertise in performance optimization and security best practices for web applications.
  • Leadership & Management Skills: 
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams. Proven ability to mentor and lead engineering teams , fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills including effective conflict resolution skills and ability to manage team dynamics.
    • Strong project management skills, with experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Communication Skills: 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: 
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to make strategic decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with cloud services and infrastructure from other vendors like Google Cloud & Azure/Microsoft.
  • Contributions to open-source projects and familiarity with open-source communities.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of AI/ML solutions
