Your missions

CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Subrogation Attorney. This role is responsible for subrogation recovery involving third-party fault in worker’s compensation and general liability claims. The subrogation attorney would be expected to coordinate the subrogation case docket and practice and would handle a subrogation case load throughout the state and federal courts in California and throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Job Responsibility:

  • Handle complex cases for review and recovery of workers’ compensation reimbursement/lien entitlements, along with all aspects of property and casualty subrogation.
  • Respond to staff inquiries, questions, and issues in subrogation matters.
  • Negotiate complicated third-party recoveries.
  • Draft demand letters, and agreements and review third-party agreements.
  • Coordinate and oversee the outsourcing of litigation to panel counsel on complex recovery cases.
  • Monitor applicable regulations, rules and laws.
  • Prioritize and document all recovery activity within an electronic claim system.
  • Perform industry topic research and reporting and provide research and draft analysis.
  • Attend industry related networking events.
  • Proactively communicate and provide training to clients, claims staff and other interested parties.
  • Maintain fiscal discipline of outside attorneys and vendors to ensure cost-effective recovery.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, problem solving and organizational awareness.
  • Complete necessary Continuing Legal Education each year to maintain bar membership.
  • Provide occasional legal assistance on matters not subrogation related.
  • Limited travel is anticipated.



Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admittance to practice law in the U.S.
  • 3-7 years of experience relating to general civil litigation, worker’s compensation, subrogation, reimbursement and overpayment recovery is desired.
  • Knowledge of latest developments in workers’ compensation and property and casualty subrogation laws.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws including HIPPA and understanding of the need and requirements regarding patient and client confidentiality.
  • Effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics.
  • Strong knowledge of current multi-state procedural and substantive law, as well as state and federal rules.
  • Trial experience preferred but not required.



Salary Range:

  • $107,000.00 - $159,000.00 USD annually.
  • Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
  • In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
