The Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Gifted and Talented High School English Education Specialist. The Highly Gifted, Talented and Creative Unit is the growing body in charge of issuing policies and guidelines regarding the identification, care and monitoring of the student population with high potential. Higher-level English is important for this student population because it can facilitate their access to updated information related to their various topics of interest and it is key for accessing high quality tertiary education.

The PCRV will will work closely with the advisors Ministry of Education to complete the English trainings and support the development of two virtual courses or workshops on the Aprendo Pura Vida platform for secondary education students with verbal talent. The PCRV will also prepare a final report of the process to prove feedback about educational care for student population identified with verbal talent.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Costa Rica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Education, preferably related to EFL curriculum and instruction.
  • 5 years of public school teaching experience, with at least two years of relevant experience in curriculum design and material production
  • Intermediate skills with on-line instruction and course development.
  • Experience in the design and execution of virtual courses.
  • Intermediate Spanish. Some counterparts can communicate in English, but Spanish will be needed to communicate with other most staff at the Ministry of Education, as well as for daily life interactions (getting to work, buying groceries, developing local relationships, etc.).
