Your missions

Chair Person needed to help plan & run Committee meetings (once every 6 weeks) in Bath for a self-funding charity providing social activities to 52+ adults with learning disabilities. Would suit someone with 2- 6 hours to spare each week

What difference will you make?

The Chair Person helps ensure the smooth running of the Charity's committee, and ensure that the Charity's activities are carried out properly and with due diligence.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a responsible individual who would be able to Lead the committee and the organisation to enable it to fulfil its purpose. Ensure an effective relationship between The committee and the staff/volunteers The committee and the external stakeholders/community Act as a spokesperson and figurehead where appropriate. Supervise and support the head of staff. Possesses relevant knowledge of organisation and people management. Desirable Qualities Willingness to lead the organisation, good leadership skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Good time-keeping. Possesses tact, diplomacy and powers of persuasion. Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences. Has the relevant skills to run a meeting well. We would welcome applications for this role from mature individuals, although younger applicants with the requisite experience and skills are also welcomed.

What will you be doing?

If you are interested in helping make a difference for people with learning disabilities and would like to help us develop our organisation further, perhaps you could consider taking on this important and rewarding ongoing volunteering role within Bath Gateway Out & About. What is involved? As chair of trustees, you will be responsible for leading and managing our 2-hour committee meetings and also the Annual General Meeting (AGM). These meetings are held once every six weeks on Thursday evenings , Bath between 7-9 pm . Previous committee or company board experience would therefore be desirable. As well as attending committee meetings, you may also need to liaise with the committee members in person, via email or telephone. You will be expected to do some of the organisational work for meetings etc. from home. Your total commitment would be likely to be no more than 2-4 hours work per week on average. Main Activities - Organisation of Trustees & Committee Management & Research Administration Advice, Information & Support From time to time you may also be requested to take part in Community Work or helping with Fundraising activities. What happens during meetings? During a typical committee meeting, your duties will be to read from the meeting agenda the main points, and to ensure that the discussion of each point is kept to a reasonable time frame. Also you will be expected to call for a vote by show of hands on important decisions to be carried forward. You will also be responsible for chairing the charity’s Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.), which takes place in the middle of October each year.
