Your missions

Small charity treasurer wanted! Blossom Africa works with communities in Uganda as they adapt and build resilience to the effects of climate change. We are looking for support with financial management and broader governance duties.

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is critical to Blossom Africa, making sure our field officers get paid on time, ensuring we maximise our income through Gift Aid claims and keeping us on track financially. As well as leading on financial management, you will help us steer the organisation in our wider strategic planning as we evolve and set our vision and direction for the future.

What are we looking for?

We aim to have a diverse board and would still like to hear from you if you do not have all of the skills below. The ideal candidate will have experience of and confidence in financial management, as well as an interest in international development and motivation to stand in solidarity with communities on the front line to tackle the impacts of climate change. Desirable skills would include experience of being a trustee, leadership or strategic planning.

What will you be doing?

Blossom Africa in the UK is run by a board of trustees who are responsible for supporting the team on the ground in Uganda, for governing the organisation, developing policy, budgeting and planning, fundraising and financial management, monitoring, evaluation and communications. We have an annual turnover averaging around £10,000 and no paid staff in the UK. We are a friendly and committed board with a wide range of skills and experience and are looking forward to welcoming a new treasurer. We're looking for an enthusiastic individual who is happy to get stuck in and take a hands on role with both the day to day management and strategic governance of the organisation. The ideal candidate will have experience of financial management and an interest in climate change and international development. The main areas of responsibility for this role are; Regularly checking the bank account and producing quarterly and annual finance reports which capture income and expenditure. Sending money to the team in Uganda on a monthly basis using money transfer software. Effectively tracking expenditure in Uganda ensuring receipts are received and filed for all expenditure Producing and submitting an annual gift aid claim to HMRC Working with the wider board to prepare budgets for projects
