This role is an Australia-based, fully work-from-home position, with access to co-working spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We ideally would like someone based in Sydney to join the team where possible at the coworking spaces.

Job Description

The GM Compliance will play a critical role in ensuring Montu’s adherence to all regulatory requirements, guidelines, and best practices in the highly regulated medicinal cannabis industry. The GM Compliance will oversee the development, implementation, and management of Montu’s compliance programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, this role will work across the business, covering all departments. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with Australian federal and state regulations governing the medicinal cannabis industry.
    • Ensure ongoing compliance with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Office of Drug Control (ODC), and other relevant regulatory bodies.
    • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update compliance programs accordingly.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and assess compliance risks associated with the company's operations and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
    • Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to ensure the effectiveness of compliance programs.
  • Policy Development and Implementation
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure all employees are informed and trained on compliance policies and procedures.
  • Reporting and Documentation
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all compliance activities, audits, and investigations.
    • Prepare and submit compliance reports to senior management and regulatory authorities as required.
  • Training and Education
    • Develop and conduct compliance training programs for employees at all levels of the organisation.
    • Foster a culture of compliance and ethical behaviour within the company.
  • Internal Investigations
    • Lead internal investigations into potential compliance violations and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    • Collaborate with legal counsel and other stakeholders to address compliance issues.
  • External Relationships
    • Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities and industry associations.
    • Represent the company in regulatory matters and industry forums
  • People Leadership
    • Build and lead a high-performing team by providing clear leadership, direction and support to employees, ensuring they have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
    • Promote the empowerment and growth of staff by providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members.
    • Delegate responsibilities effectively and manage team performance to achieve individual and departmental goals.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and processes, taking timely and fair action in instances of unsatisfactory performance or conduct.
    • Support and promote a working environment and services that are inclusive, accessible and celebrate diversity. 
    • Set team OKRs and KPIs in relation to patient/customer satisfaction, NPS, and monitor metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimisation.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in compliance with at least 5 years in an executive or senior leadership role within a highly regulated industry preferably in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or insurance. 
  • Knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements for medicinal cannabis would be ideal.
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, or a related field; a Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional - CCEP) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity and compliance.
