About The Role:

VentureWell’s finance team is growing, and has an exciting opportunity to hire a new Senior Accountant.  This role will play a pivotal part in month-end close, award management, and will oversee one Accountant.  Candidates must be well-versed in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and have experience working with federal grants. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, as well as exceptional communication skills. This hire will report to the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management (40% of time)

  • Work closely with the Contracts unit to monitor, review and reconcile encumbrances/purchase orders related to designated program portfolio
  • Prepare designated program portfolio billings and other receivables
  • Provide designated program portfolio financials (including budget-to-actuals, projections and reconciliations) to the Program Director and/or Program Vice Presidents
  • Prepare program budgets for the internal organizational budget process including collaboration with program and departmental Directors
  • Participate in proposal development including preparing budgets with Development and/or Program Directors and Program Vice Presidents
  • Maintain ClickTime and NetSuite projects for designated program portfolio
  • Prepare external reports for funders as scheduled/requested. 

General Accounting (60% of time)

  • Manage the Accountant
  • Review and approve designated AP bills during weekly payruns
  • Manage and review annual 1099 filings 
  • Oversee administration of Concur and corporate credit card program in conjunction with the Accountant
  • Coordinate with the Accounting Manager to facilitate the month-end close process
  • Review credit card reconciliations and expense reimbursements for accuracy, compliance and appropriate coding in the accounting system
  • Responsible for performing functions around the monthly, quarterly and year-end close process including reconciling/review of general ledger accounts and related audit schedules including review of schedules and entries prepared by the Accountants
  • Provide other month-end close support, as assigned

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting strongly preferred
  • Masters degree in Business, Finance or Accounting and/or CPA certification and/or public accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of finance and accounting experience, strong preference for some of it within a nonprofit organization 
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance Required
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; Advanced proficiency is automated accounting software; Proficient in the use of MS Office;
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply appropriate tools and technologies used in the workplace; ease with adapting new technologies as needed
  • High degree of digital fluency using cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRM’s, team collaboration tools, and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day to day work; specific experience with Financial/Accounting software (Netsuite preferred); Advanced Excel skills (Vlook up, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Ability to succeed and thrive in an environment with competing and changing priorities and tight deadlines

  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work

    • Salary range of $90-110K commensurate with experience and internal equity
