Plains All American is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key crude oil and NGL producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. On average, Plains handles more than 6 million barrels per day of crude oil and NGL in its Transportation segment. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Position Summary

Position will be responsible for equity-method accounting, consolidation accounting, account reconciliation package compilation and review, asset retirement obligations, and various special projects within the Financial Accounting group.  Position may also assist with technical issues research and documentation, impairment/useful life analysis, asset divestitures, joint venture formations, and other asset-related transactions. Position will also prepare various federal and state regulatory filings.  Position will interact with the entire accounting group as well as commercial, operations, marketing, executive management, and joint venture partners. Position will report to the Financial Accounting Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Equity method investments and preparation of related account reconciliations

  • Consolidation accounting

  • Journal entry preparation

  • Account reconciliation package compilation, review, and tie-out

  • Variance/flux analysis for monthly management meeting materials

  • Asset retirement obligations, impairment and accelerated depreciation analysis and documentation

  • Assistance with asset divestitures, joint venture formations and other large asset-related transactions

  • Technical issues research and other ad hoc research

  • Preparation of various federal and state regulatory filings

  • Special projects as needed

  • Process improvement evaluation and implementation

  • Various other analysis and reporting for management

  • Support for financial reporting, tax, and internal/external auditors

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Accounting degree

  • CPA strongly preferred

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, strongly prefer public accounting experience

  • Technical issues research experience required

  • Midstream oil and gas experience a plus

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills

  • Oracle experience a plus
