Job Description: The Graphic Design Team Lead contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing the Graphic Design Team. The Graphic Design Team Lead will delegate tasks to interns within the team, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. They will provide guidance and support to interns, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. The Team Lead will actively coach interns, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department. The Graphic Design Team Lead has three main responsibilities: project management, creative direction, and quality control. Tasks include coordinating and prioritizing various ONC design projects, ensuring deadlines are met, providing creative direction and constructive feedback to interns, guiding the development of design concepts and ensuring they align with the organization's brand guidelines and mission, reviewing and approving design work to ensure it meets the required standards, and conducting regular design critiques to encourage improvement and maintain consistency.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended. Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.

Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Graphic Design team at ONC.

  • Delegate tasks to team leads and interns based on their strengths and expertise.

  • Provide guidance and support to team leads and interns.

  • Project management: Coordinate and prioritize design projects, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Creative direction: Provide guidance and feedback to interns, ensuring design concepts align with brand guidelines and mission.

  • Quality control: Review and approve design work for visual appeal, accuracy, and brand compliance.

  • Conduct regular design critiques to encourage improvement and consistency.

  • Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, Email, Zoom).

Qualifications

The Graphic Design Team Lead should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • Working towards a degree in Visual/Fine Arts or Graphic Design, Visual Communication, and/or related fields.

  • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict.

  • A self-starter who is willing to take initiative and complete tasks.

  • Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines.

  • Adobe Suite experience.

  • Canva experience preferred.

  • Google Workspace experience preferred.

  • Ability to attend the Organization-Wide meetings every other week.

  • Ability to lead weekly Graphic Design Team meetings.

  • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
