Senior Platform Software Engineer

Fully Remote (US required; East Coast preferred)

The Role:

We’re looking for an energetic backend platform engineer that enjoys challenging problems and values the opportunity to work with industry experts and push themselves to new heights.  You’re a software engineer with a strong bend toward backend systems and data at heart, but you also love working with customers to solve real problems.  This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground-floor of a rapidly growing startup working at the intersection of web and AI. You will work on development of our high-volume, high-speed behavioral collection platform and related tooling, including various data platforms. You will work directly with the technology, data science, and management teams.

Our stack is built with Python services, and operates entirely within AWS, leveraging serverless, container-based facilities to create a highly performant and highly reliable service-based architecture.  We operate over multiple data stores, including an S3/RedShif//Icebergt data lake and a real-time Postgres RDS service.

Responsibilities:

• Work with Platform Lead, Product Management, Data Science, MLOps and TechOps to understand and refine service and data requirements, ensuring that services are in-line with architectural and operational needs.
• As part of the Engineering Team, provide feature and service development and bug resolution for our server and data platforms.
• Understand and contribute to our leveraging of AWS services.  Evaluate and test new technologies to enhance ForMotiv’s offerings
• Provide performance and reliability testing of services and data storage solutions.

Qualifications:

• 4 year computer science or related degree (highly recommended, but may be waived with relevant experience)
• Strong mathematics and problem-solving skills
• 2 years of SQL experience with multiple dialects.  Experience observing and managing database performance is a plus. 
• Experience working with containers and other serverless technologies is highly desired.  
• This position will spend a significant portion of time coding back-end services.  Python experience, or experience with a similar back-end language is required.

• Machine Learning or Data Science experience (not required but a plus)
