POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is seeking a senior-level Environmental Engineer to support remedial planning and design projects nationwide. The successful candidate will specialize in sediment remediation design for projects in freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments.

This position has the opportunity to be fully remote.

Project sites are located nationwide with concentrations in the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast regions. This position will be responsible for leading technical execution in remedial design, design and implementation of feasibility studies, treatability studies, civil design, and construction engineering support for HGL’s portfolio of environmental projects for USEPA, USACE, NASA, and commercial/industrial clients across the United States and territories. Projects may include large-scale, complex sediment remediation efforts that address contaminated sediments derived from mining, commercial, and industrial activities. While the focus is on sediment remediation, the ideal candidate will have remedial design experience over the range of contaminated media including sediments, porewater, surface water, soils, and groundwater.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

In this position you would function as a principal remedial design engineer specializing in sediment remediation.  Specific activities and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Direct, manage, and lead project engineering design teams.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager, engineers, geologists, CAD/GIS specialists, and other technical staff to prepare studies, strategies for remediation, concepts, and solutions.
  • Develop engineering studies, plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates for remediation of contaminated sediments.
  • Support civil and environmental remediation design projects.
  • Ensure project objectives are met.
  • Develop, review, and maintain project schedules
  • Perform quality control/quality assurance reviews of engineering work products.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
  • Support business development efforts, including developing proposals, touring potential remediation sites, and meeting with potential clients.
  • Periodic business travel is required. Travel is anticipated to consist primarily of visits to project sites with periodic visits to client offices.

This full-time position will begin in September 2024.

Remote/work-from-home status are available for this position, with episodic in-office work at various HGL office locations.

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm although travel, site visits and construction inspection will occasionally require varying hours.
