This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be leading the development and deployment of advanced radio and antenna software applications for lunar permanence business unit. Your work will be crucial in ensuring robust and reliable communication systems for all our lunar missions. This is a highly collaborative and technical role where your expertise will guide critical projects and contribute significantly to our mission of lunar exploration and habitation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the design, development, and testing of software for radio and antenna systems to be used on the lunar surface.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware engineers, system engineers, and mission architects to define requirements and develop scalable solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Develop software protocols and algorithms to optimize wireless communication performance in the harsh lunar environment.
- Conduct detailed analysis and modeling of radio frequency (RF) propagation to support antenna design and placement.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, as well as Blue Origin’s stringent safety and reliability requirements.
- Maintain thorough documentation of designs, software, and testing procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in and contribute to technical reviews, risk assessments, and mission planning activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in wireless communication systems, with a strong emphasis on software development for radio and antenna applications.
- Proven track record of successfully leading complex wireless communication projects from conception to deployment.
- Expertise in RF system design, digital signal processing, and embedded software development.
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, MATLAB) and development tools.
- In-depth understanding of communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Bluetooth, Zigbee) and standards (e.g., IEEE, ITU).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on space or aerospace communication systems.
- Familiarity with lunar or planetary communication challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and stay updated with emerging technologies in the field of wireless communications.
- Experience with relevant simulation tools.
Compensation range for on-site CA applicants is $200,857 - $281,200
