Position Summary:

The Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely preparation and filing of SEC Reporting, technical accounting research, Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) compliance and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead quarterly and annual external financial reporting, including preparation of Forms 10-Qs ,10-Ks, 8-Ks, and tie-out documentation.

  • Analyze and document non-recurring transactions by properly identifying accounting implications of various explicit and implied terms, applying appropriate accounting rules and literature, as well as exercising judgement in subjective areas to draw reasonable and acceptable conclusions.

  • Manage external vendors to support valuations, software contracts, and outsourced technical accounting projects.

  • Responsible for technical accounting research. Review, interpret and opine on diverse contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, GAAP, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and other regulatory requirements. Ensure clear and concise written documentation of accounting conclusions and accounting policies.

  • Interact extensively with external auditors.

  • Lead or assist in adoption of new accounting standards and process implementation. Build and strengthen working relationships and scale with the growth of business teams to ensure successful integration with various business functions.

  • Responsible for the creating and maintaining accounting summaries for key and complex contracts.

  • Prepares annual SOX scoping analysis and facilitates SOX testing process in coordination with 3rd party SOX consultants. Ensure compliance with the SOX controls applicable to areas of responsibility.

  • Provide accounting support for special projects and ad-hoc reporting and analysis, as necessary.

Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant discipline; CPA and Big 4 experience strongly preferred.

  • A minimum of 10 years total of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and/or Life Sciences industry.

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

  • Strong understanding of SOX/ internal controls.

Additional Skills/Experience/Requirements

  • Must have experience working at a public company, implementing recent/new FASB accounting standards, establishing, and complying with SOX controls, and performing contract reviews and developing contract summaries and white papers.

  • Experience in a Big 4 or 2nd tier public accounting firm is highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience with complex accounting issues and technical accounting research.

  • SEC reporting experience is required, including strong knowledge of SOX internal controls.

  • Advanced Excel skills and high proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • Ability to adapt to modification and changes to project plans, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics to accommodate these changes.

  • Prior experience working with tight deadlines and demonstrated responsibility for accuracy and timeliness for work performed.

  • Well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complexity.

  • Ability to travel 10% domestic and internationally.

  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Target Base Pay Range:

$175,000.00 - $235,000.00
