Job description

About Us

Isometric is a carbon removal registry. We issue the world’s most scientifically rigorous carbon credits to help Fortune 100 companies tackle climate change and prevent greenwashing.

We're growing quickly, but we’re intentional about hiring people who contribute to our unique culture. Our team is smart, meticulous and courageous—but warm, kind and supportive too.

We’re led by Eamon Jubbawy, an experienced CEO who previously co-founded Onfido, the world’s leading AI-powered identity verification platform. He scaled the company to $100m+ in revenue—verifying over half a billion identities and catching 23 million fraudsters—before selling the company for $650m. Eamon started Isometric in 2022 to bring the same level of rigorous fraud prevention, confidence and trust to the carbon removal industry.

The wider Isometric team includes scientists from Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Yale and Stanford—and technologists from companies like Amazon, Shopify, Meta, Google, Wise and Palantir.

We’re backed by world-class investors with real-world experience in climate change and company building: Lowercarbon Capital and Plural.

Join us if you're ready to take on a career-defining role. Working here will be unlike any job you've had before!

About The Role

Join our technology function as a Mid-Level Frontend Engineer to accelerate the transition to carbon removal and combat climate change. You will help develop a flexible software platform that enables companies purchasing carbon removal credits to understand and inspect, down to a source how, when, and if that carbon was truly removed, converted and stored permanently.

You will…
  • Define novel measurement, reporting and verification mechanisms that let the carbon removal industry scale.

  • Build software that takes complex carbon removal processes, calculations and measurements and turn them into simple UI that puts this data in context and helps even those new to climate change topics understand the quality of carbon offsets.

  • Own and/or support different product features with high degree of independence and autonomy.

  • Collaborate with science, data, product and design teams to build software that processes complex data to deliver clear answers.

You have…
  • STEM background advantageous, paired with 2-5 years of frontend software development within a fast-paced, product-focused and dynamic environment.

  • Collaborative mindset, leveraging open communication and teamwork for effective problem-solving.

  • Eagerness and curiosity to learn new things and ask all the questions. We are science-driven and expect everyone to get stuck into the climate world.

  • Bringing good energy and humility into how you show up. It’s a tough problem but we can’t give up.

This role might not be for you if…
  • You’re looking for a fully remote role at the moment. In the early stages of building our product we’re optimising for being physically together 3 days a week.

  • You enjoy structure and only staying within your area of expertise. We’re a small team early on the journey and things change quickly as we learn more.

  • You prefer a slower pace. While the problem we’re facing has a long time horizon, it’s also critical that we make meaningful progress on it today, not next quarter or year.

How we build...

Our engineers are diverse and product-minded with background experience in highly varied environments, from writing the first line of code at Day 0 start-ups, to building high scale systems at companies like Meta, Deliveroo or Shopify.

Our backend is built with strongly typed Python using Strawberry, communicating via an auto-generated GraphQL client with our Next.js, React and Typescript UIs (with Tailwind for CSS), and backed by a Postgres DB. Our production services run in containers on Google Cloud Platform, managed by Terraform. We use Sentry and Datadog for observability. Our monorepo codebase is hosted in Github and we use Graphite for stacking PRs.

We’re happy to work with humans with experience in all, any or none of these tools and technologies.
