ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF): The Analytics Enablement team is part of Enterprise Data and Analytics Services.  Its mission is to lead KeyBank’s analytics journey to becoming an innovative, insights-driven enterprise organization by helping to build and grow a high-performing analytics community.  Our experienced team of practitioners focuses on engaging, enabling, and empowering decision-makers across the enterprise by managing and supporting contemporary analytics tools, by developing and delivering robust training and development, and by researching, specifying, and deploying next-generation analytics capabilities.  We are an internal consulting and services organization that works directly with users across the firm, including our partners in Enterprise Technology Services, Enterprise Security Services and Risk, to facilitate the development of innovative solutions that help us compete and win with analytics.
 
The Senior BI Support Specialist fills an important data, technology, and innovation role that supports ongoing reporting, analytics, and advanced analytics functions using our IBM Cognos platform.  In addition, the Senior BI Support Specialist acts as the primary point-of-contact for end-user technical support and associated technology expertise.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Senior BI Support Specialist works both independently and in collaboration with a cross-functional team to effectively monitor, manage, and support reporting and analytics technology, data infrastructure, and the design and development of underlying analytics use cases.  This individual evaluates short-term business needs required to support key business goals and priorities and works to ensure reporting and analytics solutions are built and deployed in an effective and efficient manner. Under the guidance of the team’s management and in cooperation with peers in infrastructure, the Senior BI Support Specialist will coordinate the effective management of the Cognos environment for high-performance analytics in order to enhance business results and decision-making. The role has primary responsibility for Cognos and Power BI, and secondary responsibility other tools like Tableau and Google Cloud, to provide user technical training and support and for advising data scientists, project teams, and analytics professionals on Cognos best practices. The Senior BI Support Specialist is on the forefront for recommending how to best integrate Cognos capabilities will other KeyBank platforms and solutions, either on-premise or in the cloud.  In addition, this role actively participates in researching, evaluating, and recommending next-generation analytics capabilities including but not limited to competing technologies, natural language processing, embedded analytics, automated machine learning, and the use of chatbots for analytics use cases. This role has a passion for expanding expertise across multiple technologies as prescribed by the organization’s analytics strategic vision and is able to provide support services for analysts utilizing the tools of choice.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6-8 years of hands-on experience in business intelligence, advanced analytics, data warehousing, and statistics
  • 4-6 years of hands-on experience with Cognos Analytics, Cognos Framework Manager, Cognos Report Studio, and other Cognos tools
  • 3-4 years providing training and presenting to large audiences with diverse skills and roles
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and creative problem-solver with an innovative and curious mindset
  • Candidate must have a strong customer-service mindset
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to interact, collaborate, and present to all levels of the organization
  • Hands-on experience with creating and automating ETL / ELT flows using Alteryx, Tableau Prep Builder, BigQuery, SQL
  • Extensive experience extracting insights from Cognos repository and diagnosing / resolving performance issues
  • Hands-on experience with various relational database management systems, Google BigQuery, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle
  • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enablement technologies, and governance
  • The ability to recognize pain points within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies
  • The ability to apply architectural principles, methods, and tools to business challenges
  • The ability to create capability portfolios and technical roadmaps addressing gaps and alignment to financial goals
  • The ability to understand and recognize the economics of technology and the business goals
  • The ability to perform industry analysis and identify business and technology trends specific to the portfolio
  • Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities
  • The ability to visualize and create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the analytics architecture and associated capabilities
  • The ability to assist business case creation and realization by aligning business goals to organizational capabilities
  • The ability to act as liaison conveying information in suitably accurate models between the business unit and their counterparts within Information Technology. The scope of this information includes business requirements, data constraints, business rules, models of strategy and motivation, processes, accountabilities, and many other business and IT operational needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure)
  • Exposure to Looker a plus
  • Exposure to or hands-on experience with other BI technologies like Tableau (Server and Desktop) or Microsoft Power BI preferred
  • Experience with opens source technology integrations like Python
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Decision Science or equivalent experience preferred
  • IBM Cognos Professional Certification preferred
  • Financial and/or Banking background preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $80,000 to $110,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
