Job description

Risk Manager - Leeds - ARD1017306

Are you someone who thrives in the Insurance Industry? Our business is growing rapidly and we’re now on the hunt for a new, experienced Risk Manager, to support our Risk Director driving an effective and meaningful risk management framework across the Ardonagh Advisory platform and its businesses.

As a Risk Manager you will be responsible for second line risk management and work alongside key stakeholders to demonstrate the effective identification, management and reporting of key risk exposures.

What You Will Do

This is an overview and not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Collaborating with your Line Manager, you will develop your own objectives but focus on all the following and more:

  • Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders to promote a risk-aware culture that encourages employees to identify, manage and report risks in their respective areas.
  • Provide support to senior managers and risk owners to ensure company policies, standards and key controls are met on an ongoing basis.
  • Support senior managers in their assessment, embedding and reporting of compliance with the business standards.
  • Oversee the risk control self-assessment process, ensuring assessments reflect the internal and external environment, and that risks are being managed within risk appetite.
  • Support risk owners to challenge the effectiveness of internal control and the associated plans to address outside of appetite risks.
  • Provide oversight over the identification, management and closure of risk events.
  • Deliver simplified, meaningful, practical and ongoing maintenance of the risk management framework training.
  • Work closely with compliance colleagues to ensure risks arising from change activity are appropriately identified, managed and closed.
  • Oversee the maintenance of key risks, emerging risks, controls, actions and metrics within the risk system.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver ongoing risk reporting to the Executive Committees, challenging the adequacy and completeness of information as appropriate.
  • Enable a culture of empowerment, trust, openness, two-way communication and feedback through thought leadership and effective collaborative working across other internal teams.

What experience does our Risk Manager need?

Role

The role would suit an experienced Risk Manager with experience in financial services and ideally the insurance market. You will need:

  • Demonstrable experience of risk management principles and the Financial Conduct Authority’s regulatory framework
  • Strong knowledge of the FCA and other key regulatory regimes
  • Good knowledge of best practice in control frameworks
  • Ideally, a relevant professional qualification e.g. ICA, CII, IRM

We are seeking a Risk Manager with strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels. You will need to be able to present information in clear, simple and concise terms and deliver training and coaching to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You will be able to work independently and take responsibility for meeting deadlines ensuring work is to a high standard. You will need to be able to work under pressure, use your initiative and be creative in seeking solutions to issues.
