About The Role

This Senior Counsel role will be responsible for supporting litigation case management, acting as backup for our primary procurement attorney related to contracting reviews, and monitoring and reporting on proposed legislation, laws and regulations impacting the financial services industry. Therefore, this position requires a solid foundation of life insurance and/or corporate law.

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with key stakeholders to analyze and resolve complex litigation matters and disputes, including participation in mediations, compiling and answering discovery requests, and negotiating and drafting settlements.
  • Assist internal partners with verbal and written communication to our customers.
  • Contribute to cross-functional decision-making by providing legal advice in connection with the development of company policies and best practices.
  • Prioritize workload by evaluating urgency of issues to increase efficiency and effectiveness of Law Department.
  • Identify potential legal risks and issues by tracking relevant judicial, legislative and regulatory developments and analyzing implications to suggest strategies for organizational response.
  • Provide day-to-day litigation handling as directed by chief litigation counsel.
  • Acting as the backup attorney for the Law Department’s primary procurement/contracting attorney, including drafting and reviewing variety of contracts.

Compensation

Salary Range: $146,800 – $244,700 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are

education, skills and experience

  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active State Bar admission required.
  • At least eight (8) years of private practice and/or in-house law department experience.
  • Prior litigation experience is also a pre-requisite for the position, including drafting discovery documents and court pleadings, conducting oral argument for motion practice, participation in mediations and arbitrations, and deposition handling.
  • Strong financial services litigation experience, including primary responsibility handling litigation matters from filing to trial, settlement or other resolution.
  • Prior contracting and/or vendor procurement review experience.
  • Government and/or Public Affairs experience is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team and handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work on complex legal issues and deal effectively with clients.
