POSITION SUMMARY: This position will work on various material handling system (MHS) pricing efforts supporting sales, software, and project management. This position will participate in Quality Control and process efforts related to estimating as well as reports comparing estimates and standard costs to actual costs. The Sr. Project Estimator will assist providing technical direction, oversight, and leadership to the more junior members of the Estimating team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing leadership around our tools to ensure we are always taking a practical and simple approach for the firm price (Rule of Thumb, DCDesigner, DCConceptor & DCEstimator).
  • Estimating (a) Capital Budget Estimates and (b) Contract Estimates for material handling system projects that are completed in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Defining data requirements, gathering and validating information, applying judgment and statistical tests, and providing recommendations.
  • Effectively working in a collaborative process with multiple subject matter experts.
  • Data mining and compiling results into meaningful statistics and charts, and developing metrics for comparison purposes.
  • Challenge project costs, timescales and technologies to make sure lean and workable standardised solutions are developed
  • Consulting with Fortna Associates to discuss and formulate estimates and to resolve issues.
  • Establishing and maintaining cost libraries and databases.
  • Developing and interpreting cost estimates that assist management with decision making.
  • Development and Leadership of other team members
  • Identifying, developing and creating opportunities for process and system improvements to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
  • Contributing in the creation of an estimating training program for Fortna Associates.
  • Support tool development as needed
  • Be able to work in estimating and spreadsheets

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of formal technical training
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally - in the range of 10 – 20% of the time. 
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job
  • Strong math and analytical skills, as well as an eye for detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Excel (understanding of macros, formulae’s, lookup functions, charting, and database functions within Excel a plus)
  • Ability to flow chart and document processes
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and drive meetings to be timely and comprehensive
  • Ability to compose reports, meeting minutes, corrective actions notices, and interoffice memos
  • Ability to work flexible schedule
  • Good understanding of Project Management fundamentals (i.e., the relationship of scope, cost, and time)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or engineering
  • Knowledge of database applications and SQL
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Ability to use and be proficient in descriptive statistics
  • Experience with presenting data analyses to senior decision-makers
  • Knowledge of industry trends, cost shifts, fuel, steel, and cooper surcharges, currency rates with major suppliers and Clients globally
  • Bilingual - Preferable

WORKING CONDITIONS: When duties are performed in a typical office environment, extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen will be required. Also required is the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in this work environment is usually quiet. When travelling to Client sites, essential requirements of this position may require physical presence in various environments and locations. Physical stamina may be required for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and/or working in cramped quarters. Exposure to potentially dangerous tools and equipment amidst a variety of building materials is probable, as is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can vary from being relatively quiet, to moderate, to excessive. Safety shoes or boots may be required in certain situations. Additional safety clothing including gloves, hardhats, and devices to protect eyes, mouth, or hearing, will be worn as necessary.
