Summary

The Director-Capital Implementation is responsible to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Corporate Project Engineer role as a working project engineer as well as provide guidance and oversight of the Corporate Projects Group. The Director of Capital Implementation will report directly to the Sr. Director of Implementation-Operations Capital. In this role, the incumbent will manage major operational integrity and infrastructure projects and provide input for the strategic direction of the 3 and 5 year corporate and plant capital plans. They will address operational integrity needs for the organization; manage infrastructure expansions; review annual plant level capital plans ensuring appropriate prioritization of operational and infrastructural projects.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Effectively manage the Capital Implementation Group (3+ direct reports)
  • Provide strategic contribution into 3 and 5 year corporate and plant capital plans to address Operations Capital needs for the organization
  • Oversee the development and execution of 3 year electrical and civil/structural infrastructure plans to ensure prioritization based on safety, plant criticality, and obsolescence
  • Analyze all facets of proposed projects and provide detailed cost, schedule, and justification estimates to support capital expenditures. Interface with maintenance and production to ascertain and identify operational maintenance problems and opportunities. Conduct engineering and project analysis and follow through with major and minor project recommendations, justification and implementation.
  • Manage or support all aspects of infrastructure projects including design, construction, vendor management, cost tracking, operational interfaces and operations preparation, and startup.
  • Coordinate between contractors, vendors, and GAF to manage, engineer, and implement projects in the smoothest and most efficient manner without causing production delays or upsets.
  • Provides leadership and support for the Capital Implementation team while promoting a collaborative, customer service philosophy along with a supportive working environment.
  • Lead/participate in cross-functional corporate and plant teams investigating opportunities to improve and expand GAF’s processes and products, and business opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence ensuring team members, contractors, vendors are safety focused, ensuring that all corporate safety standards are implemented and followed.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing concepts, practices, & procedures
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Advanced proficiency using root cause analysis and Kepner-Trego or other structured methods to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Advanced ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for operations and maintenance personnel
  • Experience in process hazard analysis and process safety management
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering fundamentals
  • Advanced proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatics

Job / General knowledge/skills

  • Demonstrated leadership in terms of capital project planning, development, and execution including conceptual design, detailed design, construction and installation coordination, technical training, and turnover, start-up support, and sustained ownership.
  • Advanced ability to establish and maintain strategic working relationships across all GAF functions
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and initiatives through knowledge and insight gained from senior management
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring/training/coaching employees and performance management
  • Advanced knowledge of/experience with manufacturing analysis tools, such as statistical analysis/statistical process control (SPC), process capability studies, lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, Kepner-Tregoe, and/or Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Advanced demonstrated communications skills; written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail able to plan, execute, and control multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Advanced problem solving skills
  • Ability to execute projects within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience including direct supervision of engineers and contractor personnel
  • Ability to manage the efforts of contractors and/or internal maintenance personnel in project installations
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee projects involving multi-disciplines
  • Strong ability to Influence and drive cross-functional decisions and initiatives

Under This Roof, We Require

  • BS degree Engineering ( Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical with Mechanical preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing
  • 5+ years of management-level supervision including management of multiple salaried engineers and development of capital budgets
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven background in managing projects with budgets of $100K - $20MM.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplines as project manager and supervise others as a lead engineer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide expertise in maintenance, operations, and process.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50-60%.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., without current or future requirement for sponsorship of an employment-based visa status

  • 5 years in a roofing/building products manufacturing organization - (preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with computers and G Suite/MS Office. Drafting experience with CAD, preferably Autodesk products, is preferred.
  • The preferred location for the position is remote, located within one hour of a large or major airport.

Annual Salary Range: 153,000-195,500
