Position Summary:

We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Image Library Editor to join our team and play a pivotal role in building and organizing our image library. As an Image Library Editor, you will contribute to our organization's visual storytelling by sourcing, processing, and organizing images from Creative Commons and the public domain for use across our various projects.

WhoWhatWhy is a non-partisan news organization that focuses on finding the truth. We don't support any specific political group or try to please everyone. Instead, we stay open-minded, curious, and determined to uncover the real facts, even in the face of pressure from powerful institutions and prevailing groupthink. Our team is made up of highly skilled volunteers who work hard to raise public awareness and strengthen democracy. We are a nonprofit organization, so we rely on the help of volunteers because we do not accept corporate advertisements.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for saving democracy, visual content, photography, or digital media.
  • Excellent image editing skills using software like Adobe Photoshop or equivalent tools.
  • Familiarity with Google Docs a plus.
  • Good at paying attention to small details.
  • Clear communication skills to accurately convey image metadata.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Help us build our image library.
  • Learn about using images in Creative Commons and the public domain.
  • Edit assigned images to find, process, and provide metadata for.
  • Process at least 15 images per week.
  • Work on your own schedule.
  • Training is provided.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to work with a dynamic and passionate team
  • Gain hands-on experience within a non-profit, digital news organization
  • Training will be provided to help you become familiar with our systems
  • Contribute to meaningful journalism and support the growth of an important media outlet
  • Expand your professional network and build valuable skills for your future career
  • Recognition for your contribution and dedication to our mission

Expectations:

You will be in weekly communication with the lead image editor.  Beyond this, you will work on your own schedule. Because our team is spread throughout the world, we rely on a combination of Slack, email, conference calls, the use of Google Docs, and expect everyone to be responsive in a timely manner.

To Apply:

We will not review applications that appear to be mass submissions. To apply, send your resume and a customized cover letter, making clear you are familiar with our mission and work. You should confirm your understanding that this is a volunteer position. If there is no option to attach a cover letter, please send a cover letter to [email protected]
