About the Division of Financial Services

The Division of Financial Services (DFS) provides central financial functions in support of the university’s missions. DFS's vision is, "To deliver world-class financial services to the university."

The Opportunity

As a member in the Division of Financial Services Financial Information Services (DFS/FIS) team, the Security Access Specialist works in close collaboration with Cornell information Technologies’ (CIT) Community Applications team to provide information, consultation and instruction related to Kuali Financial System (KFS).  The Security Access Specialist maintains, provides and improves KFS Security Access knowledge along with collaborating on CU Person data integration for KFS.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serve as security configuration lead. Create complex security configurations, including but not limited to security groups, roles, workflows, and data structures to comply with business needs while ensuring internal controls are enforced, security policies are followed, and confidential data is protected. Develop and implement standard approaches and solutions for configuring KFS.
  • Provide consultation and modification of KFS access with CIT’s technical team and DFS’s Module Leads.
  • Provide consulting support and testing scenarios for KFS Module Leads for security changes and code releases
  • Create user documents and online documents to assist with the application knowledge base
  • Coordinate with other units using CU Person data to promote and maintain accurate person data in KFS
  • Maintain a working relationship with the Financial System Provider (currently KualiCo) to advocate for desired improvements for Cornell University
  • Participate in analysis of enhancements and upgrades of the financial system working with Module Leads to understand business processes, issues and concerns, define solutions, apply technology to make improvements. 
  • Conduct access security analysis for a long-term strategic roadmap for the university enterprise financial systems. As the university anticipates replacement of the financial system in future years, this position will be a key subject matter expert for person data, access management, and workflow configurations.  The position responsibilities are expected to evolve during the implementation with significant effort contributed to the project.

What We Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least three (3) – five (5) years’ relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience with cloud security concepts and best practices.
  • Proven experience with providing support for users, diagnosing problems and clearly documenting issues. 
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with data query tools.
  • Aptitude to work closely and collaboratively with technical support staff, vendors, and application users.
  • Ability to develop and maintain detailed documentation in a shared, cloud-based environments.
  • Adaptable and flexible while responding to deadlines on assignments and workflow fluctuations. 
  • Proficient in collaboratively using computer applications such as Microsoft Office, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to take initiative and set priorities to manage multiple, competing demands.
  • Result oriented, ability to resolve issues in a timely manner and to use critical thinking, sound judgment and decision making in accomplishing tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively working independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team. 

University Related Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cornell KFS/Finance experience.
  • Understanding of financial systems security, access control and monitoring.
  • Experience performing security assessments of SaaS applications.
  • Experience working on a large, complex implementation project following formal project methodologies and close collaboration with teammates.
