Your missions

The Local Knowledge Working Group, funded through the UVA Democracy Initiative, is seeking two graduate students to engage in project management and research as we explore the ways that our community collects and accesses information about our regional past and present. We are seeking two students to work throughout the 2022-2023 academic year.  These students will be members of the Local Knowledge Working Group, and will help to coordinate and contribute to the priority activities for the year. Work may include: planning and preparing for public Cvillepedia edit-a-thon events, creating additional documentation for Cvillepedia users, documenting community assets and activity focused on local and regional history, coordinating a symposium in the Spring, and supporting the expansion of the Working Group to include broader membership and scope.

FWSA (i.e., Work-Study) eligibility preferred, but not required. Work-Study employment is effective from 08/23/22 - 05/2/21.

 

The pay rate for this position is $20/hour.

The position will report to Rebecca Coleman, Librarian for Architecture, but will work closely with all members of the team, including staff at the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society.

 

This is a wage position. The expected commitment is approximately 6 hours per week.

Responsibilities (will be distributed between hired students based on experience, interest, and need.)

  • Work with the Local Knowledge Working Group  team to plan and facilitate community edit-a-thon events for Cvillepedia
  • Contribute to the creation of enhanced user documentation and policies for Cvillepedia
  • Collaborate with working group members to draft a high-level report documenting local assets, activity, opportunities, and threats related to collecting, preserving, and sharing local knowledge.
  • Assist in the creation of a research guide for local history and information.
  • Engage in project management for Working Group activities to ensure progress toward goals
  • Attendance at some in-person events will be expected, though a good portion of this work can be completed remotely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend and assist with programs.
