The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and operation of the company's network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. This includes directing and coordinating the design, installation, automation, and support of network systems to ensure the stable operation and connectivity of the organization’s IT assets. This role requires a deep understanding of network technologies, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing large-scale enterprise networks. Additionally, this role involves developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and operation of the company's network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. This includes directing and coordinating the design, installation, automation, and support of network systems to ensure the stable operation and connectivity of the organization’s IT assets. This role requires a deep understanding of network technologies, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing large-scale enterprise networks. Additionally, this role involves developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the network engineering team in the architect, design, and implementation of short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets existing and future requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration.
  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports.
  • Develop network roadmaps that are aligned with the overall Infrastructure Architecture roadmaps.
  • Manage network assets, including maintaining network component inventory and related documentation.
  • Plan, acquire, and coordinate the installation of related network hardware and software across the organization.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage and negotiate with vendors, partners, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Assess, approve, and administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Manage and ensure the effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, NAC, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with senior infrastructure management, stakeholders, department heads, and end-users regarding pertinent network activities.
  • Approve and administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Direct and administrate a contingent of network engineers, and where necessary, conduct performance reviews and corrective action.
  • Provide guidance to team members and others within IT.

AUTHORITIES:

  • 24x7 access to building and sensitive technical areas relevant to job responsibilities.
  • Authority to negotiate technology services and products with vendors and suppliers as appropriate to job.
  • Authorization of staff overtime and on-call time as required to complete assigned commitments and support.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 5+ years equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in CISCO hardware and networks.
  • 5+ years of extensive experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, Cisco ACI, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, servers, and so on.
  • Excellent knowledge of routing protocols and standards, including BGP, EIGRP and OSPF.
  • Experience in automation and cloud networking.
  • Knowledge and experience in network cabling and different types of circuit installations and handoffs/termination/demarcation.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations to create needs assessments and budgets.
  • Ability to research networking issues and products as required.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergencies.
  • Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • On-call availability as required to meet special project or support commitments.
