Role

As a Data Steward, you will be the primary authority on data governance within our research organization. Your mission is to build and maintain a robust data governance framework for our research data lake, forming the foundation for knowledge building, digitization, and AI/ML initiatives. You will work closely with data science, IT, and development teams, ensuring seamless dataflow in laboratory e-systems and alignment with global data governance standards. A key aspect of this role involves working with a variety of primary data types from assays like flow cytometry, genomics, and cytokine, as well as complementary data types such as cell lines and samples. A solid understanding of scientific principles and data types in these areas is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Data Governance Implementation: Apply and enforce data governance policies, guidelines, and standards to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Advocacy and Collaboration: Promote the adoption of data governance standards across the organization. Collaborate with data owners, data scientists, system administrators, and IT professionals.
  • Data Management Coordination: Handle Data Interface Agreements, ensuring effective coordination between data owners and consumers. Maintain comprehensive metadata definitions and ontologies.
  • Data Quality and Training: Ensure high data quality through regular assessments and organize training sessions for stakeholders to ensure accurate data capture and usage.
  • Incident Management: Manage incidents, changes, and requests related to data, and maintain an inventory of all data sources.
  • Digital Archiving: Facilitate the digital archiving of data, especially from external sources, ensuring seamless data flow within laboratory e-systems.
     


Requirements
 

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in life science, engineering, computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or equivalent. Wet lab experience is a plus.
  • Experience: knowledge of6-8 years of experience in designing and maintaining a data governance framework, with a focus on modern data warehousing. Minimum of 3 years in Pharmaceutical GxP.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with data preparation and governance tools (Alteryx, Trifacta, Collibra, Reltio), analytical tools/platforms (Databricks, Informatica IICS, AWS Glue and Lambda, Snowflake). Expert knowledge of data architectures.
  • Data Modeling: Strong understanding of data modeling, especially in life sciences, and the ability to collaborate with data engineers to translate models into technical data repositories.
  • Complementary Data Knowledge: Familiarity with data attributes for cell lines, samples, and other complementary data types.
  • Communication and Leadership: Effective communication skills, experience in Agile delivery management and DevOps principles, leading cross-functional teams, and providing oversight to external service providers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and a coaching mindset.
