Your missions

The Opportunity:

As a member of the IT Operations group, reporting to the Sr Manager of ServiceDesk, the Senior Engineer – SAP Basis Operations is responsible for configuring, monitoring, and optimizing Avantor’s SAP environments. You will work closely with the SAP Basis, developers, and application teams to support multi-billion-dollar business applications. Our top priority is preventing service disruption while enabling fast growth of our life sciences company. You will also have the opportunity to cross train and support various SAP products, ancillary systems, databases, and related technologies while proactively contributing to strategic SAP projects. Key success factors will include a positive attitude and the ability to work independently as well as within teams. MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

  • Provide global production support and monitoring of Avantor SAP environments as part of a rotating 24x7 shift schedule.
  • Use tools such as Solution Manager and HANA Cockpit to manage technical aspects of Avantor’s SAP environments with a focus on system availability and performance.
  • Provide support for major SAP projects, upgrades, system refreshes and maintenance.
  • Assist SAP developers, application teams and other users in troubleshooting issues.
  • Engage with service provider on relevant change requests and supports incidents.
  • Manage SAP Basis team processes, represent the team in Change Control board meetings, coordinate with outage management team, and liaise with our hosting partner for effective problem, incident, release, and change management, ensuring seamless operations and approvals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

             

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent education/experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in SAP Basis administration in S/4HANA or ECC 6.0, Solman 7.2 and several other NetWeaver 7.5+ applications with ABAP/Java stacks such as BW, PI, CRM, SCM, EWM, GRC, SAP Gateway, BODS, C4C, FSM, CFIN, MDG and Web Dispatcher is required.
  • Experience in database administration, implementation and troubleshooting is required.
  • Experience with Linux/Windows OS and HANA, ASE and/or MaxDB databases is required.
  • Experience with Solution Manager 7.2, cloud solutions, and HANA Cockpit is highly desired.
  • Certified with ITIL 4 Foundation will be an added advantage.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Expert in SAP BASIS and underlying operating systems and databases mentioned above.
  • Able to debug and understand basic programming.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both independently and as a team member
  • Must be flexible with work hours including weekends in order to support system maintenance and other off hour activities.
  • Must possess excellent problem-solving skills and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with personnel at all levels.
  • Good time management skills with ability to remain organized and focused in a highly volatile environment.
  • Additional qualities:

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

  • Hybrid-work is preferred by many coworkers in this organization, ranging from two to four days in the office and one to three days from home per week.
  • Full-time work from the office is also an option.
  • Remote work is an option, with the ability to remain as such if agreed upon during the hiring process (monthly or quarterly office visits are highly encouraged).
  • Typical work hours fall within North America East Coast time-zones, adjusting as necessary to accommodate ongoing projects.
  • Reasonable flexibility in working hours is mutual, flexibility may be agreed to for support of personal needs and can also be necessary to support work activities and deadlines.
  • Personal computer will be supplied, adequate network connectivity while working remotely is required and is the responsibility of the individual.
  • Diverse abilities may be accommodated in this role more easily than a similar role at other companies for reasons that include the remote-work potential and/or working hours flexibility.
  • Offices have adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
  • Some offices have been modernized and include amenities such as optional standing desks, please inquire during the interview process.
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines does impose some strain.
  • Work assignments vary and are not highly documented into standard operating procedures, prior experience and precedent are often used to fulfil requests.
  • New alternatives to improve productivity and reduce effort are welcome and encouraged.
  • Minimal physical effort is required, work is mostly sedentary.

Travel outside of the local office is not required.
