Your missions

The Spectarium art team is seeking a legendary Principal Environment Concept Artist to join us. You’ll work alongside our in-house team to produce high-level, inspiring environmental concept art and technical concepts that our modelers can use directly.

Collaborating closely with our talented Lead Environment Artist, Level Designers, and Art Director, you will support the 3D environment team in creating a wide range of concepts. These may include anything from props and full culture kits to mood paintings that define the emotional intent of the environment.

This role demands a strong sense of design, color theory, composition, and architecture, along with the ability to define and expand our current world.

Our ideal candidate will have a portfolio showcasing their talent in creating hand-painted concepts, a wealth of industry experience, an understanding of the environment pipeline, and a knack for mentoring and inspiring other artists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environment Design: Create inspirational environments in a consistent style, with close attention to composition, lighting, and perspective.
  • Architecture: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the layout and spatial proportions of a variety of buildings, both realistic and imaginary. Knowledge of architectural styles is advantageous.
  • Technical: Understand the requirements of a 3D environment team and work alongside them to ensure your concepts are fully realized.
  • Concept: Collaborate with our level design team to overpaint and iterate on their white boxes, bringing new ideas to the table while adhering to design constraints.
  • Values: Represent the company and its values both internally and at external events.
  • Collaboration: Provide regular feedback to the wider team and demonstrate the ability to take constructive feedback and iterate on designs accordingly.

Requirements

  • A deep passion for fantasy games and a keen eye for immersive world-building.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard DCCs.
  • Strong understanding of environmental design principles.
  • Experience working with environment art teams building worlds inside Unity.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and technical constraints.
  • Experience working with development teams and having shipped titles from conception to completion.
