Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and implement comprehensive interconnection strategies for the company's renewable energy pipeline.
  • Analyze transmission and distribution system opportunities, constraints, pricing, and congestion to optimize project viability and market access.
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance to the development, commercial, finance, operations, and EPC teams on interconnection matters.
  • Lead negotiations with transmission and distribution system owners and regulatory agencies to secure interconnection agreements and permits.
  • Participate in regional and national organizations and policy initiatives related to grid modernization and interconnection reform.

  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of interconnection strategies for all projects:  solar and energy storage.
  • Manage the interconnection queue process and deadlines, negotiating with ISOs and utilities to secure timely and cost-effective interconnection agreements.
  • Oversee technical studies, including system impact, power flow and stability analyses, to assess the impact of renewable projects on the grid.
  • Oversee internal and external interconnection cost estimates and facilities studies.
  • Guide projects through all stages of interconnection, from application filing to feasibility studies to technical review and finalization of interconnection agreements.  
  • Review and negotiate interconnection agreements, ensuring they are favorable to our company and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze grid infrastructure to identify suitable locations for interconnections.
  • Work with third party engineering firms to conduct load flow modeling, capacity, and injection studies to target optimal circuits for low-cost and high-capacity interconnections.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including utilities, regulators, and industry associations.
  • Grow a team of engineers and interconnection specialists, providing technical guidance and mentorship
  • Stay current and work with Company policy professionals on evolving interconnection policies and regulations, advocating for policies that facilitate the integration of renewable energy and energy storage.
  • Represent the company’s interests within industry working groups to advocate for policies that facilitate low barrier and cost interconnections.
  • Participate in applicable Interconnection Technical Working Groups (ITWG) to identify, discuss, and resolve technical barriers and challenges associated with interconnection in key markets.
  • Work with utilities on flexible interconnection models to help avoid system upgrades in place of emerging solutions, such as battery storage, reactive power support and advanced communication and control schemes.
  • Provide guidance to ensure the Company’s origination efforts are focused on sites with viable interconnections.   
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to overcome interconnection challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term grid modernization strategies to accommodate increasing renewable energy penetration.

  • Requirements
  • Degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 7 [JS1] years of experience in the renewable energy industry, with a strong focus on interconnection.
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating the interconnection process for large-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Possessing a deep knowledge of how DERs interact with the grid, including technical challenges and mitigation strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of power system modeling, analysis, distribution and transmission planning, and interconnection standards.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with utility and transmission system operator professionals.
  • Adept at synthesizing interconnection studies in order to identify the most important risks and/or opportunities.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of technical professionals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for renewable energy and a commitment to building a sustainable future.
  • Expert judgment, analysis and analytic skills. 
  • Ability to read technical utility studies and project documents/prints/schematics
  • Self-motivated and well organized with proven ability to perform at a high level with limited direct oversight and management;

  • Demonstrated success at building team relationships and partnerships across organizational lines;

  • Experience with power market modeling and analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant software tools, such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF and PLEXOS.
