Job description

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Short-Term Disability Case Manager!

As a Short-term Disability Case Manager, you’ll make timely, accurate, and customer-focused Short-Term Disability, and/or Statutory Disability Insurance, and/or Absence Management claim decisions. You will work closely with clinical, vocational, employer, financial, and other informational internal and external sources to gather relevant data, compare it to the applicable contract/administrative agreement and procedural documents, conduct an analysis, and engage peers and management as appropriate.

What You Will Do

  • Make timely, accurate, and customer-focused STD, SDI, and AM new and ongoing claim decisions
  • Contact internal and external partners to obtain relevant clinical, vocational, employer, financial, and other information
  • Compare the information to the terms, limitations, and conditions of the contract/administrative services agreement and applicable procedural documents and render the claim decision as quickly as possible
  • Document the claim systems in an accurate and comprehensive manner while maintaining maximum levels of efficiency
  • Prepare and disseminate articulate written and verbal communication to assorted internal and external sources
  • Prepare, update, and use a claim management plan to attain the most appropriate outcome
  • Maintain a superior level of caring and empathetic customer service throughout all interactions. Take actions to earn the claimants and employer's trust and confidence. Anticipate customer needs and take action
  • Work as a team to support one another through flexibility, collaboration, creating a positive work environment, consistently maintaining professionalism and integrity, actively taking steps to foster high morale, and demonstrating a dedication to excellence

Compensation

Hourly Range: $21.00 – $35.19 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Your Experience And Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 12 - 36 months of STD claim experience
  • Proficiency in STD, SDI, and AM product and claim administration issues
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing these products and services
  • Possessing or actively pursuing a New York Independent Adjuster license or actively pursuing industry professional designations (e.g., FMLA Specialist, etc.) is a plus.
  • Good understanding of medical terminology/pathology/anatomy
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite of applications
  • Mathematical skills
  • Excellent at multi-tasking and prioritization
  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills
