Your missions

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to lead underwriting efforts for Equipment Finance portfolios, providing specialized expertise and knowledge for complex financial assessments and credit evaluations. This role supports the Department of Defense Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) Loan Program Office (LPO) and involves working on commercial and industrial loan transactions, particularly in the manufacturing and related sectors, under the general supervision of a Project Manager. 

Responsibilities:
  • Lead underwriting efforts by servicing Equipment Finance (EF) portfolios at the highest level of ability and complexity.
  • Support the EF lending team with expertise in structuring, analysis, and credit documentation for EF credit actions.
  • Establish the viability of repayment sources and prepare credit approval memos.
  • Identify, gather, and review financial information to determine credit grades and appropriate loan structuring.
  • Assess and communicate risks to assist department risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide service and support for both associates and customers, assisting in customer calls and identifying cross-sales opportunities.
  • Offer guidance on escalated or difficult underwriting matters.
  • Lead special projects to facilitate EF lending activities and service capabilities, potentially acting in a leadership role for less experienced underwriters.
  • Analyze and underwrite new and existing lease/loan transactions, with strong financial modeling skills.
  • Interact effectively with Originators and maintain good verbal communication skills.
  • Assist in portfolio management activities for equipment loans and leases with aggregate portfolio exposure.
  • Make recommendations on new credit requests, renewals, and modifications, ensuring quality and soundness of all credit transactions.
  • Capture and document credit decisions, conditions, and modifications to meet client needs while balancing internal risk/return requirements.
  • Exhibit equipment finance knowledge across a wide range of asset classes and obligor types, with solid documentation skills and the ability to lead transactions from start to finish.
  • Provide specialized expertise in commercial and industrial lending, particularly in manufacturing and related sectors.
  • Support complex financial assessments and credit evaluations for loans between $10 million and $150 million.
  • Inform development of financial due diligence requests and risk assessments.
  • Evaluate applicant's plan of finance and underlying economics, including revenue assumptions, capital expenditures, and operational costs.
  • Assess the reasonableness of project schedules and the ability to withstand cost escalations or revenue downturns.
  • Review contractual structures for equipment development, operation, and maintenance.
  • Contribute to the development of credit protections and the negotiation of commercial terms.
  • Collaborate with Financial Analysts and Modelers to ensure thorough evaluation of loan applications.
  • Participate in meetings and conference calls with OSC LPO staff and borrowers as needed. 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in Commercial Lending or Credit Analysis, particularly in equipment leasing.
  • Deep expertise in manufacturing sector economics, equipment financing, and modernization programs.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience in risk assessment and credit analysis for large-scale industrial loans.
  • Proficiency in financial statement spreading, preparation of projections, and trailing twelve-month analysis.
  • Completion of a credit training program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (2016 or later).
  • Ability to travel to Crystal City, Virginia, and other U.S. locations as needed. 

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement within five business days of award or onboarding.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced team environment, multitasking effectively.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, ability to structure, perform due diligence, document, and close complex transactions. 
Pay Range: USD $95,000.00 - USD $120,000.00 /Yr. EEO:
