Rocket Travel by Agoda is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join our growing Engineering team. In this role, you will be involved in all facets of the software development process, from inception to deployment. You should enjoy building new products, playing with APIs and data, and discovering and exploring new technologies and ideas. Rocket Travel by Agoda aims to build and deploy cutting-edge technology that connects travelers with more than 2.5 million accommodations globally.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) at Rocket Travel, you will: 

• Add visibility to critical applications and processes.
• Grow the business by maintaining existing and launching new partnerships.
• Experiment to bring our users a constantly improving experience and to improve conversion rates.
• Improve existing code to make it more testable, tested, and resilient.
• Enhance and deploy high-quality code. Write, refine, and release robust, efficient, and maintainable code that meets the highest standards.
• Maintain a sense of empathy for our customers and move quickly where users are most acutely affected.
• Manage your own deadlines across projects. There will be short turnarounds for some projects, and longer engagements for others. You know how to manage your time and balance both.
• Be scrappy. We’re a small team and often wear many hats. Some projects may not be completely defined. This individual will take a resourceful approach to what’s needed and drive results.

About you:

• You must be a resident of the Philippines. You will closely collaborate with a team of engineers based in the Philippines, but at times you will also need to work with people on the other side of the globe.
• You have worked with JVM tools and languages in a professional context for at least 3 years at an advanced-level.
• You have used at least one other JVM language other than Java, for at least one project (Groovy, Scala, Kotlin or Clojure).
• You have deployed applications to AWS or a similar cloud provider.
• You are passionate about sharing ownership and product direction for our customer-facing products or internal applications.
• You are passionate about learning and helping your teammates learn.
• You are passionate about how your code translates into a better customer experience.
• You are familiar with agile programming methodologies.
