Job description

Overview of Position:

The Field Engineer is expected to provide mid-level system installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance on Speedcast’s products and services overseas, onshore, and offshore as appropriate. The employee may also perform highly complex technical assignments as directed by leadership.

What you will do:

  • Provide technical support and resource to ensure delivery of service
  • Act as a liaison with clients, and groups within Speedcast to ensure the timely delivery of service
  • Perform installation, commissioning and maintenance of fixed and stabilized satellite systems, including:
  • Provide technical support and supervision of junior Field Technicians, including on the job training where appropriate
  • Assist with the problem solving of technical issues within the company
  • Travel to customers sites overseas, onshore and offshore, often at short notice
  • Comply with all safety requirements implemented by employer, customers, facility owners or vendors involved in the employee’s daily tasks
  • Configure, test and find faultfinding satellite modems
  • Configure, test and find faultfinding C & Ku-band RF units
  • Assemble fixed antenna systems
  • Assemble Seatel stabilized antennas and radomes
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately, legibly and obtain proper approvals from job site location management
  • Communicate job progress to customers, Management and Technical Services
  • Work on-call shifts of twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week, except for periods designated by the service supervisor
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites for installation
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.; climb structures as required on land and offshore, installing communication and antenna systems

What we need from you:

  • 5-7 years of experience working with Radio Frequency (RF) communications systems
  • 4+ years of experience working with VSAT systems and related equipment
  • 2+ years of experience in proper usage of a variety of hand tools
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Professional attitude, appearance and performance
  • Proficiency with use of computers
  • Fluency with written and verbal English language
  • Must be able to complete a background check needed for passport and travel visa applications
  • Must be able to pass Fit For Duty exams
  • Ability to work to meet both customer and company demands within a short time frame

Even better if you have:

  • Associate's degree in Electronics/Engineering/Telecom or Data Networks
  • Experience with computer networking systems and components
  • Ability to install, commission, and fault find VSAT systems and equipment
  • Experience installing, commissioning, and fault-finding stabilized satellite systems and equipment
  • Familiar with the use of a range of suitable test equipment including Spectrum Analyzers, BERT testers, and Wattmeters
  • Familiar with install and fault find on typical maritime installations (LOS, VHF, UHF)
  • Experience with PBX’s, routers, TCP/IP, PA and radio systems
  • IS systems installation
  • Experience with Cable Management
  • Proficiency with test equipment and tools (for project cables and equipment)
  • Familiar with Labeling-marking-tagging
  • Knowledge and proficient with EIA/TIA cable installation standards and guidelines
  • Familiar with Safety/Security – as applicable for all phases of project and offshore requirements (Water Survival, HUET, etc.) – specifics will be verified with customer
