Title: Incubation Intern – Innovation and Market Intelligence
Dates: Start July or August 2024. 20 hours per week during academic year with full-time hours available during the summer months. Role is planned through December 2024, with the option for extension

Job Purpose
The Incubation Intern will work closely with the Incubation team, exploring new solutions for potential testing in the Lab at Filene and identifying emerging technological, social, and other innovation trends that will shape the future of credit unions and the communities they serve. The ideal candidate will have familiarity identifying and evaluating potential startup partners, exploring landscapes, and defining key trends, developing reports and deliverables, and managing team administrative duties. We are seeking a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about exploring new solutions in cooperative finance and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Innovation Trends and Startup Landscape Exploration
- Collaborate with the Incubation team to explore the fintech startup ecosystem to identify the most promising and relevant emerging solutions.
- Maintain a pulse on the latest trends and cutting-edge research to deepen Filene’s position at the forefront of credit union innovation.
- In collaboration with the Incubation team, generate trend analysis outputs.
- Startup Coordination and Engagement
- Schedule and support ongoing discussions with startups to explore potential collaborations and stay updated on their latest developments.
- Assist in startup vetting and selection and contribute to the preparation for the monthly Fintech Spotlight series.
- In close collaboration with the Lab leadership, proactively reach out to startups and solution partners that align with Filene Lab’s strategic priorities.
- Organization and Documentation
- Partner with the Incubation team to compile a comprehensive monthly digest detailing the solution partners engaged, insights gained, and the status of ongoing discussions.
- Ensure meticulous documentation of all interactions with startups and solution partners, utilizing Filene’s Salesforce platform.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Provide support for research projects and tasks that help Filene advance credit unions’ understanding of consumer finance.
- Expand understanding of consumer and cooperative finance, practice the basics of research in financial services, and build portfolio-worthy projects.

- Working towards a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Preferred Experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly summarize ideas and write strong copy.
- Ability to actively manage and prioritize several projects simultaneously, amidst ongoing and constant change.
- Passion for purpose and precision, including high-level of organization and keen attention to detail.
- Willingness to take initiative and work independently, while also contributing to a dynamic team.
- Ability to work effectively with Filene team, credit unions and consumer finance partners.
- Intellectually curious about credit unions and their members.
- Enjoy working in a “think tank” environment where ideation, continually embracing change, being restless with the status quo and seeking reinvention is part of the culture.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience using Salesforce, or willingness to learn the platform.
- Basic knowledge of financial services preferred, but not required.
- Experience with data analytics preferred, but not required.
- Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative market-facing research preferred, but not required.

Base Salary Range:
$18.00 - $28.00
