Your missions

Vacancy – Utrecht – Fulltime (32 – 40) – Alstom

Your challenge as a System Signalling Engineer

A System Designer needs to have a clear view on what the system boundaries are and be able to embed the customer’s signaling rules.

To achieve this he/she needs to be able to interpret customer requirements using e.g. operational scenarios or use cases and convert them into system requirements. Furthermore, he/she needs to able develop the architecture and identify/evaluate the internal and external interfaces.

The design decisions you have made need to be traceable and need to be supported by e.g. models, calculations or simulations.

The next step is to convert the system design into a hardware design and a software design. Depending on the project this is done by the engineering team itself or outsourced. Therefore at least you need to be able to:

  • understand electrical drawings and should be able to make changes with e.g. Autocad or Microstation.
  • able to configure and understand application data (software configuration) for subsystems like interlocking, radio block centre

After the technical solution is released and transferred to the Verification and Validation team for testing purposes,  the system designer needs to be available to support with root cause analysis in case the V&V team finds non-conformities.

Of course, it is not expected that you have this complete skillset already when you start in this position. We have a strong experienced team who can mentor you and the Alstom University offers a variety of training programs.
