eBay's Buyer Experience engineering team is looking for an outstanding Software Architect to work with as we redefine the face of eBay. You’ll be working with a world class team of engineers, designers, product managers, and analysts to create great products that make a difference on one of the world’s most trafficked and loved websites.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of building large scale applications, low latency API’s, data pipelines, and a high focus on capability oriented architecture. As the lead engineer you will oversee aspects of the software lifecycle : design, development, testing and experimentation.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Architecture & Engineering Excellence:
Influence and contribute to the organizational technology strategy, ensuring its adoption and successful execution within your projects/domains
Act as a change agent with a strong sense of ownership and innovative mindset, proactively identify architectural opportunities, advocate and bring forth better solutions, prototype quickly, demo and collect feedback often, document well to get buy-in
Lead architecture & design with a systematic approach, balancing the holistic design and scalability of software architecture with short-term feature development
Playing a pivotal role in continuously improving engineering practices, bringing a significant long-term impact on team velocity including speed and quality of delivery
Produce best-in-class documentation, such as Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), facilitate design reviews, and maintain architectural wikis to foster self-learning and efficient onboarding.
Collaborate closely with fellow architects across various teams and domains within the organization to align and synergize architectural efforts
Execution:
Responsible for driving major projects and features across teams from design phase to coding and testing
Work closely with product managers, engineering leaders and collaborate with partner teams to execute product/technology roadmap
Grow Others:
Coach and mentor others via either formal mentorship structure or day to day activities such as pair programming, code/design review, hackathon
Play a critical role in hiring, acting as a bar-raiser to elevate team talent
Job Requirements
Deep experience building large scale, high throughput distributed web platforms/APIs serving millions of users
Exceptional development skills in Java / Scala, Javascript, solid knowledge in GraphQL.
Tracking records of identifying high-value, high-complexity technical problems, driving to effective solutions that had a significant positive impact
Successfully forged alignment with senior stakeholders on technical direction for ambiguous problem areas
Developed and drove adoption of technical patterns that significantly improved engineering practices across the organization
Strong sense of ownership, embrace differences and disagreement to get things done and move forward
Deeply care about growing others, great at mentoring and coaching.
Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years (or) a MS in Computer Science and 12+ years of software design and relevant experience
