The University of the Cumberlands seeks a Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative IT team. In this role, you will develop, deploy, and maintain machine learning models to support data-driven decision-making and enhance various institutional processes.
Responsibilities:
Design and Develop Machine Learning Models: Create, test, and implement machine learning algorithms and models tailored to university data, including student information systems, learning management systems, and other institutional data sources.
Data Preprocessing and Feature Engineering: Extract, clean, and transform data from diverse sources to prepare it for model training and evaluation.
Model Evaluation and Tuning: Assess model performance using appropriate metrics and fine-tune hyperparameters to optimize accuracy and efficiency.
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with academic and administrative units to identify opportunities for machine learning applications and understand specific requirements.
Deploy and Maintain Models: Ensure robust deployment of machine learning models in production environments and monitor their performance over time.
Create Data Visualizations and Reports: Generate insightful visualizations and reports to communicate model findings and predictions to non-technical stakeholders.
Research and Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related technologies.
Develop Documentation: Write comprehensive documentation for models, processes, and workflows to ensure clarity and maintainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3+ years’ experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and familiarity with SQL.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning algorithms.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in higher education or related fields is a plus.
