The Role

As the Divisional General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating and steering the strategic direction, financial health, and overall success of the Shipping Division.  The Divisional General Manager’s leadership will shape the organization’s growth, innovation, and market presence.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and communicate a clear vision for the Division aligned to the Group’s purpose.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for the Division in collaboration with the executive team and board of directors.
  • Oversee all inquiries and negotiations related to mergers, joint ventures, the acquisition of agencies, or the sale of significant assets, subject to board approval.

Financial Management

  • Drive financial performance, including revenue and profitability growth, and cost control.
  • Determine budgets, resources, and procedures by collaborating with cross-functional teams across the Division.

Operational Excellence

  • Streamline operations, optimize processes, enhance efficiency and quality standards across all departments in each operating company.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to operations, sales, and service delivery.
  • Anticipate and adapt to industry disruptions.

Market Positioning and Growth

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, forge strategic partnerships, and evaluate potential acquisitions.
  • Provide counsel, guidance, and authorisation for significant growth plans, ensuring alignment with established policies, strategy and board approval.
  • Enhance brand visibility and customer engagement in all markets.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Mitigate risks related to regulatory changes, supply chain disruptions, and economic fluctuations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations, environmental, and safety standards and all regulations with respect to trade and international standards.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Cultivate strong relationships with shipping and logistics partners, shareholders, investors, joint venture partners, management, employees, suppliers, and industry peers.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.

People Leadership and Talent Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent.
  • Cultivate a work environment that fosters collaboration, to drive employee engagement.
  • Provide strategic direction to the management team.

Qualifications and Experience
  • A graduate degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • At least four years (4) of proven senior executive leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in the shipping/logistics industry is an asset.
  • Visionary mindset with the ability to balance short-term goals and long-term vision.
  • Demonstrated success in driving business growth and achieving financial targets.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic business environment.
  • Kowledge of international and regional regulatory compliance.
