The Role: As a Welder/Fabricator at Railserve, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of our locomotives. This position involves extensive travel to various Railserve sites in the United States and possibly Canada, focusing on welding and fabricating tasks.

What You'd Be Doing:

  • Performing welding and fabricating tasks on locomotives, including repairing wreck damage and pocket replacement.
  • Utilizing FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW welding processes with wire sizes ranging from .035 to 3/32 solid and flux-cored wire.
  • Executing stick welding in all positions and demonstrating proficiency in welding, cutting, and fabrication.
  • Safely using grinders, torches, air arc, welding machines, and other equipment related to welding and fabrication.
  • Working in various positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Climbing and completing some work on ladders.
  • Lifting material up to 40 lbs.
  • Adhering to safety standards, ensuring quality work is done safely and within an acceptable timeframe.

A Little About Who We Are Looking For: We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong background in welding and fabrication. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree from a welding program and at least 1 year of welding experience, or alternatively, 3 years of industrial/construction or similar professional welding experience. Attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to travel are essential qualities we are looking for.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Graduate of a welding program with 1 year of welding experience OR 3 years of industrial/construction or similar professional welding experience.
  • Proficient in FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW welding processes and procedures.
  • Experience with wire sizes ranging from .035 to 3/32 solid and flux-cored wire.
  • Competency in stick welding in all positions.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and fabrication.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb and work on ladders.
  • Ability to lift materials up to 40 lbs.

Environmental Conditions: The work environment may involve exposure to various elements such as noise, fumes, and varying temperatures. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn.
