Position Summary
EBI is seeking a full-time Architectural Historian to prepare Section 106 and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reports. The successful candidate will have strong technical report writing skills and ability to conduct intensive archival, technical research, and field survey, and develop well-supported determinations of eligibility and assessments of effect. Prior working experience in Section 106 regulatory process and direct experience in preparing Section 106 compliance documents is preferred, but not required.
This position reports directly to the Area Operations Manager and will be a fully remote, work from home position. The majority of clients this position will support will be located in or around Southern California so candidates will need to already be established in this market. This is a field-based position, with upwards of 50% local and regional travel expected. Candidates must have previous experience with travel and be comfortable with this model to be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete historic property research at the State Historic Preservation Offices or on their online databases
- Conduct field survey to document historic properties and assess project effects
- Prepare Section 106 and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reports
- Simultaneously manage electronic deliverables on many ongoing projects, as well as complete assignments on-time and within budget
- At times, travel on short notice (one week or less) will be required
Qualifications and Capabilities
- Master’s of Arts in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Art History, History or other directly related field preferred
- Less than two years of related non-academic work experience
- An ideal candidate will meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural Historian; however, in lieu of a Master of Arts, candidate may hold a Bachelor of Arts in History or a closely related field

The reasonable estimate of the salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. The salary range describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position across applicable US locations. This position may also be eligible for a bonus whereby total compensation may exceed base salary depending on individual performance. The actual compensation offered will be based on a range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to; geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements, knowledge, skills/level, qualifications and budget.
