Phase Biolabs is a biotech startup developing carbon upcycling technology to convert industrial CO2 into useful products.
We’re on a mission to decarbonise heavy industry and upcycle more than 1 gigaton of CO2 by 2050. We’re working on optimising the microorganisms that catalyse the conversion CO2 into chemicals and e-fuels as well as scaling our gas fermentation bioprocess.

We are seeking an experienced Grant Writer to help us part time on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing funding through grants, with an understanding of both UK and EU funding opportunities. An ability to convey complex scientific concepts in compelling grant proposals is expected.
Lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals, ensuring compliance with grantor guidelines and deadlines.
Build a project consortium by reaching out to new potential partners or those within our network
Collaborate with our team of scientists and engineers to gather the necessary information and data for grant applications.
Craft compelling narratives that effectively communicate the impact and importance of our work to potential funders.
Manage and maintain a grants calendar to monitor application deadlines, submission dates, and reporting requirements.
Coordinate project consortium and ensure each partner has prepared the required documents
Provide regular updates to the leadership on grant application status, potential funding opportunities, and recommendations for strategic alignment.
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Technical Writing, Communications, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
At least 2 years of experience in grant writing, preferably within the environmental, biotechnology, or scientific research sectors.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex scientific information into clear, persuasive narratives.
Excellent research, organizational, and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Previously secured grants from organizations such as Innovate UK, EIC etc.
Familiarity with environmental issues and a passion for sustainability, carbon utilization technology.
This is a contract position with the potential for extension based on performance and funding success.

The hiring process will consist of an initial CV screen. If successful you will be invited to a first interview (10-20 minutes) covering basic qualifying questions. After this, you will be invited to a second interview (45-60 minutes) where we will take a deep dive into your skills and experiences. In parallel we will carry out referencing. Finally, we will invite you to visit us for a few days where we will work together to get to know each other and learn more about you, your motivation and ambitions.
