Job Summary:

Energy project development is foundational to Tenaska and central to our future. We are seeking an experienced, collaborative and self-motivated individual to help us advance existing and planned energy portfolio and project development opportunities. The Director, Origination is responsible for the successful marketing of Tenaska Development’s development services and projects under development. The Director is expected to lead commercial efforts for various multi-GW portfolios while assisting the development team in coordinating and prioritizing project development activities. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of technologies critical to the global energy transition, including traditional renewables such as solar, battery storage and wind, as well as carbon capture, transport & sequestration, hydrogen and gas-fired generation project development. The Director will initiate and maintain regular customer contacts, thoroughly understand and promote the value of Tenaska’s projects and services to different markets and customer classes and negotiate development services and project offtake contracts for Tenaska and Tenaska’s investor partners and customers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Originate, negotiate and close PPAs, tolling agreements and build transfer agreements for projects under development.
  • Originate opportunities to utilize Tenaska’s development expertise on behalf of load-serving customers.
  • Establish and maintain key utility and C&I customer relationships.
  • Understand key policy features of focus markets, using this understanding to communicate how our projects and services maximize customer value.
  • Work with the entire Tenaska Development team to create and execute on new business strategies and growth opportunities.
  • Prepare project proposals and offerings (including RFP responses and bilateral marketing materials).
  • Act as project manager during negotiations, coordinating input from legal, engineering and finance team, etc., to arrive at executable contracts.
  • Must be able to travel on short notice for domestic overnight business.
  • Reliable, dependable and predictable attendance is required.

Education/Experience/Skills

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of energy project origination experience required

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience as an energy project developer
  • Outstanding ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented, analytical mindset and questioning attitude
  • Proactive approach toward identifying and solving problems, as well as seeking challenging experiences
  • Strong work ethic, team attitude and willingness to work extended hours and travel up to 50%
  • Candidates willing to work from Tenaska’s Omaha headquarters will be given strong preference; remote or hybrid arrangements will be considered only in exceptional circumstances
