At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Central Leptin Signaling.
The applicant will work on a fully NIH funded project, using the modern toolbox of cutting-edge neuron-specific manipulation to investigate how the brain communicates with fat tissue via the sympathetic nervous tissue to regulate the sympathetic feedback hormone leptin. The project aims to understand how this brain-to-fat axis mediates dynamic adaptations of energy, glucose and fat metabolism in response to physiological challenges that are affected in many brain disorders. The position involves work with transgenic animal models, cre/loxP systems, pharmaco- and optogenetics, fiber photometry, viral tracers, neuroanatomical/histological techniques (iDISCO tissue clearing and lightsheet microscopy), metabolic measurements in temperature-controlled chambers, thermal imaging, hormone assays and analysis of peripheral tissues. The position will involve further development of present techniques and their implementation, data analysis, manuscript writing and assistance in grant writing. Qualified applicants require a Ph.D degree and experience in one or more above listed techniques is of advantage.
