Job Description:
A Postdoctoral Researcher, or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics as part of a new Air Force Office of Scientific Research “Materials Characterization and Quantum Performance: Correlation and Causation (MQC)” program, aimed at improving the performance of transmon qubits. This position will focus on using analytical and numerical methods to investigate static and dynamical disorder and nonequilibrium quasiparticle dynamics in superconducting devices. This project is part of a larger collaborative effort within the AFOSR ecosystem, and successful applicants must be able to collaborate closely with internal groups focusing on first principles calculations and with external experimental groups Presentation of results at conferences and meetings, and publication are expected. (Senior level) Mentor graduate assistants.
Required Qualifications: Postdoctoral: Ph.D. in theoretical physics, theoretical Chemistry, or related field. Senior Postdoctoral Researcher: Ph.D. in theoretical physics, theoretical Chemistry, or related field plus a minimum of three years of experience.
Desired qualifications: Working knowledge of many-body techniques and the ability to use field theoretical methods of condensed matter physics and connect them with measured properties is required. Knowledge of numerical methods and scientific programming experience is highly desirable.
Special Requirements: Research involves spending a portion of time off-site at experimental laboratories.
Additional Position Information: The position will be open immediately for an initial one-year appointment with the option to be renewed for up to two years. Salary and level will be dependent upon the candidate's qualifications.
