Business Development Associate supports the Director of Business Development and Author Marketing in facilitating market research, journal author outreach, APA Journals social media communications, and strategic partnership development efforts for APA Publishing, in line with the APA strategy and long-term interests. This role is an excellent opportunity to be introduced to APA Publishing’s products and customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of post-secondary education required. Prefer education background in psychology and related social sciences, communications/business administration/management, or English (writing).
- One or more years of post-degree work experience in marketing, publishing, or other business operations (especially, with tasks related to research platform use or social media) is welcomed. Four or more years of relevant work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
- Demonstrated academic or professional experience with using research databases and platforms (e.g., APA PsycInfo, Web of Science, SCOPUS; EBSCO, Ovid, ProQuest, ERIC) and data visualization tools to effectively present and communicate complex findings strongly preferred.
- Regardless of educational background or work experience, must have demonstrated strong critical thinking, attention to detail, research, and communications skills (e.g., experience of professional communication with academic faculty, writing reports, ability to synthesize information from disparate sources for fact sheets and product overviews).
- Must demonstrate strong knowledge of the digital media landscape and working knowledge of Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn. Working knowledge of Instagram, YouTube, and social media analytics tools is a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and at least intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must demonstrate strong working knowledge of Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. Working knowledge of social media analytics, including Facebook Insights and Google Analytics, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube preferred.
- Experience with Sprout Social a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop or other graphic design tools desired.
- Experience with XML and HTML a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the work of the Director of Business Development and Author Marketing and the Author Marketing Manager in conducting author, reviewer, and Editor outreach in an effort to grow the APA Journals program and strengthen APA’s standing as an authoritative voice of psychology. (80%)
- Manage the APA Journals Spotlight and Spotlight on Student Researchers of Color series (communicating with the authors and Editors, tracking progress, preparing posts and promotion).
- Maintain the APA Journals social media channels in the following ways: schedule posts in line with marketing campaigns; track analytics to identify trends; monitor user engagement and competitor activity; and propose new approaches.
- Support Author Marketing Manager and various APA Publishing teams in creating, implementing, and reporting on author marketing campaigns and surveys.
- Monitor and analyze competition, industry trends, and audience feedback.
- Support the work of the Director of Business Development and Author Marketing and the Business Insights Manager in conducting competitive analyses for APA Publishing and preparing background reports on new markets, publishing tools, and partnerships. (10%)
- Execute special projects as requested by the Director of Business Development and Author Marketing, Head of Partner and Channel Development, Author Marketing Manager, Business Insights Manager, or Open Access Program Success Manager, and other duties as assigned (10%).
